Hi All!

EDIT (march 2009):
Amazing news!
I finished a new update of G-Speed, 1.5 version.
The ships have all been restyled, plus there is the new amazing techno music by DiRodrigues who wrote some songs specifically for this game! Plus some minor issues fixed and enhanced ship control.

You may find the link to the download page below(rar file is 107 Mb I know it's huge but I wanted to include the hi quality music in it!)

I now made a video available for my futuristic racing game G-Speed:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cic1DWoYe2s

G-Speed is a Freeware futuristic racer game, completely written in Dark Basic. I updated the game (already posted here in the past but the thread is too old and I had to create this new thread) to version 1.39

Features:
6 ships + 2 to unlock
7 tracks + 3 to unlock
Championship
7 AI controlled opponents
weapons & powerups
turbo speed and speed catapult
spiked armours to hurt opponents

Enjoy!

Thanks to all of you for the kind comments!
BTW I'm working on some new ships for a sequel to this game, here are the first models with some light effects on them. The yellow one is a very enhanced version of the yellow ship in the video.
EDIT: I had to remove the images since links are now broken

Game looks nice. Haven't tried it yet, though. Any new updates for it?

editlayed the game, good. Comments, the thrusters should show more as to the speed. The crafts could use some physcis or bumpyness to tell you that you hit the wall. Haven't seen power up's super important.

Great game from what I can tell

The bandwidth on the site is horribly low (got about 40kb/s average) but I can deal with that.

I wasn't able to play for long because my keyboard won't register Up and Left at the same time (for some god awful reason)

I'm running Vista and got the game to run just fine after downloading "d3drm.dll" and slapping it into the system folder.

Some C+C for you:
- The turning animation seemed a bit hard-wired and illogical as simply tilting a hovercraft doesn't seem like it would do a whole lot. Perhaps consider turning the ship slightly as well based on speed.
- The screen right before the race starts was a little confusing. It showed my ship and a little yellow bar and a background and nothing else. I'm ASSUMING the screen was for adjusting your ship to be more biased towards speed or acceleration, but couldn't say for sure, and it took me a bit of clicking around to get it to go on to the race. I may attribute this to me being on Vista, but I 'unno.

It's awesome, and I'm right now looking around for a keyboard that WILL work because this "no up+left" has been getting on my nerves for a while.

Five stars for you!

looks great
you know, If you now have or could possibly get DBPro, I think this sequel could look even better! Of course, DBC is fine, and if you can pull of something like this in it, other than graphics theres pretty much no reason to switch

Thank you all for the kind and useful comments!

By now I'm still working during my few free time to the sequel, at this pont it's a 1.5 version, with new ships, some game engine and graphic enhancements and the new amazing music by Di Rodrigues (a great composer who is creating original songs for G-speed 2). I added a new video on YouTube, too:

waw loved this game, really well thought out, the only constructive crit i can say about the game, is perhaps having a little more paths for the AI to follow as i just stayed in front of them whilst they sat banging the back of me lol...

Awsome game though! Heh it's nice to have a break from programming to just play around with these sorts of games.

@AlexRiva- Sorry haven't checked out the game in some time. You have some serious talent. The game played well except that it was waay to hard to control the craft and defeat the others. The ship hit the wall and nearly lost all speed which was hard not to with the courses you designed. I will download the new update some time.

Take care,

Looks great.
One thing I would suggest is squashing the shadow when the racer turns, it doesn't look quite right at the moment.

Looks awesome! Love the music! I would love to someday see something like this with Wii controls.

That being said, I rate your app with 5 Kirbies! (Stars are so cliche)

I'm starting a Wipeout style game, was wondering if you have any tips, or if you want to make a new game using your engine? We could work on it together.

Good luck for your game so!
The engine I used for G-Speed is a bit old and still based on DB classic, so I suggest you tu create a new engine with DBpro for better graphical effects.

By now I'm busy in a full time work as C++ programmer in a boring non-gamedev company so sadly I've no more spare time at the moment for gamedev (sad! )
Anyway thanks for your offer and I'll be glad to give any hint you could find useful.

My first suggestion is to start making a simple running engine with a ship going on a simple track (an oval I suggest) without collisions. Try to think before what you will need in the complete game (and don't make my error of creating a different set of collision routines for each track, it's madness!).
When you have a simple running demo you'll see one by one the things you'll need: collisions, track data stored in a grid for collisions, physics for the ships, AI, and so on.

Start this way and let me informed on your progress.

Cheers!
Alex
