Ok, this entry might violate the AUP, thats also the reason why I won`t post the full game in this Forum, but I start to get used to this forum, I like the international community, so I give it a try.

Project: The Sickening

Tagline: Disasterpiece

Additional Info Fromer Mod Contest Entry, now Ultimate FPSC Contest Entry

Special about it Should be as shocking as possible.

Plot:

I wanted to write the whole story down, but my english wasn`t good enough, so heres a short "Plot"

You play the Anti Hero Alexei "Goat" Kosloff, a thief who fell in love with the beautiful Elena which is studying Jura. Filled with new gained happiness in life, they decided to leave town and start again. Elena finally got away from her terrifying parents and Goat decided to start an honest life.
Money was short, so the couple found a small, worn out apartment in a really dark hood. Elena soon found a job in a sex shop (as shop assistant, not something else) and life goes on.

But then, one day, she didn`t return. The Hood was too obscure to not worry about, so Alexei decided to take his knife with him and check whats going on. In the Shop, the other Seller told Goat that Elena already left, shw had an headache. Goat wanted to leave, but then, out of the shadows from the Shelf where they have the real hard and borderline stuff, a disgusting guy talked to you. He sayed that a lot of "hotties" would disappear in this hood. Then he laughed and payed a DVD with a disgusting cover and the title "Used and Abused". Goat passed in range and forced the perverted guy to tell him more. In fear, the person told him that there is an abandoned hotel where they turn very special movies for very special audiences. You`ve drawn your knife and told the guy to bring you there. He did, Goat has also found a Colt in his car. Ready to face Insanity, Goat enters the old Building. A smell of fear and death`s blown your way, a few junkies hang around there but as soon as you enter deeper in the building, you face pure madness.

Alright, thanks for reading and sorry for my english.

The game will have about 5 large Levels, and it will be as violent (in a realistic way) as possible in FPSC.

Features:

- Intense Shooting Scenes, with custom AI, talking enemies, pimped weaponary(Airmod) and texture chances and brutal sounds.

- Dark and Creepy Mapdesign

- The most shocking FPSC experience ever, with really sick corpses (also loads of female ones, thats why I fear the AUP won`t allow me this game)

- for the game designed Dialog System

- Custom Made Textures all over the game, some of them with manually drawn furniture!

- Little animals like rats and birds, plants in the old building and leaking pipes to set mood in the more neutral levelparts.

- Loads of retextures Characters.

There will be an english version too!

I only add one screen of the kitche you already know. More if a mod tells me that I can keep the gametopic.

Its still very WIP (especially the ground)

Another awesome game. But what about your other game? Oh and you will pass AUP if you put an 18+ warning I think.

I really like the layout as PoK said

Well, the Thread is still there, so I`ll go on.

I won`t add any screenshots of severe corpses though.

Well, I have to thank for the nice comments, everyone

@Krowsnest: Thank you! I appreciate that!

@Juzi: Yeah, I wish I could write a better english, so the story would be explained better But nice to hear you like it

Alright, I show off a bit more work then, please note that I only show the first map, which is way more lighter and nongore than the rest. Its still very WIP!

This is the Meelhall. Its a luxury Hotel, yo you have this coloured glass and these paintings. I still have to change the Skybox and do a bit texture and detail work. the things that are flying around there are bats. You will have your first real fighting here.

The Entrance Hall. Please watch in a dark room.

A lot of the Hotel Rooms will have this style. I started this one for the screen contest and liked it so much that I had to add it to the first map.

Closer look at the Graffitis used in this room. The left one is manually drawn. You can check my deviantart Profile (see Webpage button under post) for more. But take note that I`m not a good traditional artist. Mapdesign is first

Graffitiys and Pictures will be omnipresent in the game.

I really like the mood this green light sets.

The Webpsace often dies, so I add a screen of the mealing hall to this post in full resolution later.

Any C&C?

Geez, you guys from the German Boards...just amazing work, very very amazing work

The latest screenies look fantastic, the mood is really, well its a grim mix of abandonement yet dirty, derelict and creepy.

Textures are awesome as always, the entity placement is nice and the lighting is just perfect.

And did you make that skybox? If not where did you get that sucker, its sweet! (I understand if you don't want to share though )

Also, I'm not sure but some games, it just seems like the storyline doesn't really fit the environment or feel thats conveyed in the game. Your plot sets the mood and really drives home the feeling of your map design though, love it.

(And by the way, I emailed you - again, haha sorry)

I'm about ready to give up. How can I compete with this level of...erm...level design?

At least this will probably show people that using a mod isn't everything

Looks simply amazing. I really need to work on my level design skills if I am going to be competing with entries such as this.

@ xplosys: LOL I thought the same way, but then, when you really think about it, what really matters in a game is it's playable in the end.
Whether it's just genuinely fun to play; kind of like old school games like Doom, they have terrible graphics (albeit the technology was poor in those days) but they're just really enjoyable.
Yes graphics make a game look better, but I'd rather play a fun game with sub-par graphics over a beautiful and boring one (NOT saying that "The Sickening" will be boring )
I'd love to see your game though xplosys, if you've got one on the go!

Anyways, hope to see more soon Wolf

@jx53: Merci C`est mieux qu`utiliser une fenêtre transparent.

@Airslide and Xplosys: Well, its charming that such experienced User as you guys are, like my Mapdesign, but it wasn`t my intention to decourage you.

Theres still a chance that I do not get it finished in the next 20 Days, so it would be a waste if you would stop your production. BTW, I havent had a chance yet to thank you for the Airmod @Airslide.

@Braden: Don`t worry, I`m also working on little "Quests".

Received ya mail, btw

Oh, and I guess people won`t forget games this fast. I still remember fall of the fireflies, its still awesome!

Currently

Well, the first map is nearly its final state now, so I wanted to add the Audio, but my whole collection (a few gig) was ripped out of games. The stuff that wasn`t ripped was mixed with the other things, so I`m now collecting new sounds. This will take a lot of time, so getting the game done for the contest is a struggle.

Oh man, sorry to hear that.

Now, for some reason I still thought that media like that (ambient
sounds and other things of the nature), were acceptable to be
used from other games, as long as YOURS was non-commercial?

I distinctly remember playing games in the past from these forums
whom had sounds from Doom 3 and FEAR and what not. Is it just not
allowed for the contest, or?

Sorry, still a little foggy on that subject

@ Wolf: Don't worry though man, I'm sure you can finish 'er up in time, you've got a good foundation. Good luck!

Wolf, (and anyone else needing music)

I don't have much in the way of sounds, but I have found some great game/movie music on this site. I think you might find it useful as well. I am including the license here so there is no discussion about it.

I sure hope you get a demo out.

@Braden: Most people use a few sounds from other games in their creations. But I just want this game to be my own creations. And hunting sounds on the web is fun, somehow
And thats whats game creation about, isn`t it
BTW: Emailed ya!

@jx53: Je n`ai plus d`MSN, seulement Yahoo et ICQ. J`ai la texture des fenêtres de cgtextures.com. Génial site

@xplosys: The game will only have around 5 Levels, so I don`t release a Demo. Only the full version. Thanks for the link, btw, interesting site

@Nomad Soul: Thanks I will add a few custom shader effects too

@Gunn3r: Emailed you about the audio

@Apple Slicer: Thanks! Stay tuned, I will show new screens tomorrow or so.

Ok, about the game then:

latest additions

Alright, I now have a good basic soundlibrary for the Players sounds, the materials, bulletimpact etc. etc. My Soundcollection starts to grow. Other than that, the second level is growing, you`ll see an impressive swimming pool, with loads of plants and dirt. Other than that, I have the basics of the filming and killing areas. Finished a few retextures too!

Smaller stuff: New Rat Texture and Sounds
Added new non copyrighted shouts for the enemys

Now working on

A new script, that plays heavy breathing and that adds motionblur and heavyer bloom, if the player is near death. I found it a cool feature, what do you think?

Finishing Level 1 and 2

Some of the AI is still too aggressive. I need to work on it. They have to shoot less and to rund around more.

More info soon

You know Wolf, you can use the heavy breathing sound effect in a loop during disturbing or frightening parts. It really helps set the mood, and it makes the player more immersed.

Very true, the gaming experience should I suppose include the hunt for custom media across the gaping void of the "interwebz".

And the only reason I was asking is well, I do use sounds from
other games in my own project

Either way, still lookin' forward to this game man! Your progress
sounds better and better each day, you never cease to amaze

Sweet, I'll be on the lookout for that email.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone

@AaronG: Exactly I guess you`re talking about the kitchen? These textures are also used in Penumbra and Call of Duty 4. These Bastards stole our Ideas

@Apple Slicer: This Summer will be the release.

@EAI: Not yet, these parts of the Level`s are still too W.I.P. to show now. I rushed a quick concept of them due to the timelag I had caues of the Mod Contest.

But I realize that I never get it done for the Mode Contest. I`m too detail fanatic
Maybe for the ultimate contest.
News

Well, sadly, I can`t post any new cool Screenshots of Characters and or more interestind Levelparts. Everything is still too Work in Progress to show, but I can give you some Text based info.

- The Badly wounded Script is in Beta Testing, I also made my own damage huds (Idea inspired from Fall of The Fireflies)

See Screen of the delirium here, it activates as soon as youre near death.

- Theres a small amount of Motionblur in the Game all the time now, you can deactvicate it in the "Options" (a friend of mine is a hell of a coder, and he writes me a starter ) if your run on a weaker system.

- The Swimming Pool has been cancelled, the Concept sucked bananas:

See images

- After running a few testes, the game has really large Levels and loads of Effects and Enemys. But due to efx I still have 40 - 60 Frames on my quad. I can tell you now, that the game won`t run on weaker systems (Singlecore under 3ghz etc.)

Screenshots

Ok, time for a few new shots. As mentioned to errant, the Levels are still too work in progress to show. What I can give you guys here are corners and other side places, where absolutely nothing happens. Scenes you have played through in about 30 Seconds. But it are actually these Levelparts which give a game the athmosphere and the soul it needs. So, here ya go:

One of these rooms where you put in your stuff if you go swimming.

Why I show you that much Bathroom Screens? Because I like that mirror!

Alright, expect more specific screen soon.

To View in a darker room

Currently working on

I`m finishing the bloody part of the second level. Theres also a task about a fuse box, that needs some extra scripting. If I keep the pool, you should also be able to empty it in the maintenance cellar. (Playing around with water is always cool )

I`m also working on the static corpses.

You do not have any Idea on what kindof webpage i`ve been to get material. I`m not talking about the BD/SM Fetish Leather Masks for the chars, no I`m talking about the nude male sixpack body textures from wallpapersites

Just kidding.

Comments and critics are welcome and requested

heart attack.

Oh, oh...

Yep, there we go, all better.

Man the game is looking more amazing every day, definitely feels
like it's going to be a very creepy game to play!

Don't want to say you're going to win, but...this certainly
doesn't hurt your chances in the least bit

Thanks guys! These comments really keep me pushing on.

@beachard: Yes, I do all these segments and retextures myself. I have some sharpening textures to give them this special and high quality look. Nice to hear that you like the athmo

@Braden: Man, I do not want you to die due to a hard attack

Seriously: Great to here you like em!

Well, as I never get this done for the Mod Contest, I`ll keep pushing on and do it for the Ultimate FPSC Contest.

Aah yes, the MP5N. Fantastic work on this game aswell, good custom content and level design.

EDIT: Plus, I suggest you change the "fingerless" textures for EAI's weapons. I can see an ugly black seam running down the finger that you may want to track and remove.
