Hello All

I recently saw a post by 'Fallen One' asking about 'transparency' with models and noticed a great reference image for a test model, so I used this image to create a model and test FPSC transparency values with it by using 'Alpha' channels.
I have supplied the FPE with the 'better' transparency value as far as visuals are concerned but you can change this value to one which you think works better for you.

Download in this post.

Screen Shots in next post.

EDIT
A full set of this model which includes 2 new texture variations and an animated version of all three texture variations can be got at the link below:
http://www.mediafire.com/?n7b3fd1n7j1r83d

NOTE - I have included the original model which is posted here in the set plus supplied the 'UV' template if you wish to create your own textures for the models.

Reminds me of Tron (80's version) or Tank Battles for C64. Thank you for these.

Thanks for the response and yes its in the same style as Tron and the old retro game 'Battle Zone' (if I remember correctly).

It may not be of much use to users but it was used to test some of the transparency values and how FPSC deals with transparency.
My verdict on the results is 'could be better'.

I may supply some re-textured variations of the model (with no transparency) if users would like this?

Again Thanks.

I cant test as I need to fix my PCs, Im full on busy at the moment editing films on my macs to fix them. I am wondering what issues come up with greater transparency? Also if it shows the rear side of a texture, for example, if one had a box, does it just show one side texture, and not the texture thats on the reverse side. You used to get that in game engines a number of years back, the fix was to make the object with flat sheets and not one solid object, Im not sure if you also had to have a very tiny gap at the edges as well. If thats happening, perhaps its also possible to fix with messing with the models normals.

fallen one

This is the point fallen one, you need to see it for yourself on screen with different transparency values applied to see the difference because its hard to describe the effects which come with each value.
You have a point when you mention the transparency showing a one dimentional view but it is possible to see (somewhat) the reverse side of the object (trans value = 2) by keeping the model 'unjoined'
with a gap as you say but this all changes depending on the subject matter of the model itself.
The effects of transparency will change depending on where on the model you wish it to be shown and what type of model it is and how it was constructed, so the results will change with every different model.
I asked about transparency in another post recently and found out that my modelling software has (as far as I can see - Milkshape) not got a particular feature which would help more with this subject when exporting to .X file. So software used can be an issue too when trying to ahieve transparency in certain ways for models.

I wish I could explain further but you would have to see the resulting effects for yourself by changing the values yourself to get a better understanding on what is and isn't possible at the moment with transparency in FPSC.

For the benefit of others, don't forget to delete the '.BIN and .DBO' files generated by FPSC before testing the model with the new changes made.

Transparency values tested were, 1,2,3,4,5

Cheers

I have just added a download link to a 'set' of these models in the first post.
New screenshots of the two new texture variations can be found here.
