No title yet, still far too early for that.

I don't know what genre it would fit into. You control a single vehicle at a time but maybe several per mission but you are never on foot and the camera is never inside the vehicle. So maybe a Third Person Vehicle 'Em Up. So there it is, I am writing a 3PVEU!

You have the choice of Helicopter, Tank or 4x4 (maybe others if time permits). Some missions will require you to use all vehicles others you may have no choice and only be given one of them.

There will be different mission objectives. From reconnaissance to capture the flag type games. Possibly with multiplayer but I doubt that I will have enough time for that aswell.

I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this. There is an awful lot to do but I will try and get it done in time.

I have spent today making a terrain and placing plants and trees on it as a speed test, just to see what I can get away with. I have used 'Arteria games' objects and have spent most of the day reducing the size of the textures to make them usable. Some trees had three 1024x1024 textures applied to them. I have reduced them to 64x64 and you can hardly tell, a MASSIVE saving in RAM and a huge speed increase too.

Here's a screenie. It only shows what I have been working on today so, there isn't any gameplay there but it does give an idea of what it will look like.

You know what Tink? ... I think you might be right!

Never heard of Smuggler's Run

Airslide - don't get put off by my screenie, it looks more impressive than it is. It is useless as a game at the moment. All the trees, plants and grass are positioned at random. Absolutely useless for a game, it was just a test to see how far I could push my gfx card (quite far it seems)

Here's some more:

Hey Scrags, I think these broken tree's all look too similar, maybe not use as many and rotate them a bit?

Thanks Zo. Everything is very temporary at the moment so the trees will all change when I start to lay down the level design.

What graphics card do you have? Looks like it's 6200/X1300 power from the FPS and on-screen stuff.

Models of the Tank & Aircraft look good too.

Looks like the non-Fresnel water from the shader pack.

Hey scraggle - Those trees are from the 'tropical pack 2' right? I'm thinking of getting it, just wondering if the leaves on the trees have transparency/alpha mapping at all. Also how do the bulidings and the rest of the models look in DBP?

Yes, they are from Pack 2. The leaves do have transparency on them, they are PNG's with an alpha channel but I spent about 8 hours converting the size of all the images because they are way too big. Some trees had three 1024x1024 pixel textures on them and the game crawled. I changed the size to 64x64 and you can hardly tell and the game speed increased dramatically.
However, there are several objects that won't load into DBP or have no texture. When I emailed The guy at arteria, the reply I got was "Well, they work for me!"
I also bought the Dungeon Pack but all the cave pieces were just boxes. He said he would fix them when he got time. Which was supposed to be no later than the weekend just gone. Then it was put off further because he had "Some custom work to do". Now he is ignoring my messages.

sorry to hear about that. Did you buy it when the £10 discount was on? I think I might get the tropical pack now as I'm after palm trees and beach hut style things for my game.

I did get it with the discount but that doesn't mean I should accept below par service. If you still want to buy them at full price after hearing what I have said then good luck to you.

Yeah, as highlighted many times before (mainly by Megaton) Arteria models are really dog-food standard rubbish, that should really be offered free, since they are nowhere near good enough quality for sale.

I mean, no offence to you or anything Scraggle, but I have seen far better looking tress (namely palm trees) free on turbo squid than in that pack.

David, the models are actually rather good quality IMO, just the service and website is pretty below par. The Huts and lookout towers you get with it look nice too. Scraggles reduced the texture size, but I've attached a screenshot of one of the trees taken in DBP, at the default texture size.

Anyway, don't want to go off topic

I know Steve (the arteria guy), I Do know for a fact that he is working hard on custom stuff at the moment. And as far as him not responding to messages, He's probably working on his packs. He does the models and them music so his hands are full considering he is a one man operation. He's a good guy and great to do busness with.

Actually no, you didn't. You ignored several of them. I did get hold of you eventually and after a lengthy and heated discussion you agreed to refund the dungeon pack.
There are still many models in the other packs that don't load or have textures missing but I can't be bothered with the hassle I went through with the dungeon pack. If you want to redeem yourself then you could fix those models without causing me any further grief. I presume you still have the list of faults that I sent you.

ok lets not takover scraggles great thread with this great looking project.
with more about stevies modell packs
he is probably much like the rest of us working hard on our spare time with stuff we love but maybe not always have the time to give 100 % all the time.
but he is probably trying to do his best like all of us.
now i want scraggle to put up some new fancy screenies.
cheers
