Hello all,

Well I have been at it again and once againI can't begin to thank Black Fox his script was the genisis of the attached script. I was stuttering with scripting and his original simple script turned on alot of little lights in the attic of my brain.

So here it is. It uses the fpgcrawtext command along with the traditional image type hud, to create an animated type message. I think it can help with making a game more interactive and imersive. Anyway it's still rough so feel free to edi it anyway you wish. I have included the blank hud image so you can use it as a template. Please tell me what you think, as I said its rough there may be spelling errors, thats all I ask.

check bottom of script for instructions

Very effective but some of the 'timings' could be a little longer to allow the user to see which key they have to press.
This has many uses.

WOW man, this seems awesome!

Although i already have created my own mission objectives system for my 007 fan game, and by the time i gave a "coffebreak" because now i am studying level design and lighting techniques on 3dsmax (i will create all my level in 3dsmax, with lighting baked to the textures and custom shaders), but i already downloaded this and be sure that whenever i come back to mount the game, i will give a special look to this script and maybe we can develop it further using variables to store the mission objectives status (complete, incomplete), not only merely display, maybe we create an complete mission objectives system and give it free for all folks to use here?

Cheers,

007.

I am glad to see you got this working and it will serve as a great template for new people wanting to do something similar using the fpgcrawtext command. As Ross mentioned, the timings could be a bit longer, but that is an easy fix per user preference by changing the "etimergreater=x" value.

Otherwise, an excellent template.

Hey guys thank you for your opinions, keep em coming. 007 there seems to ba a good amount of potential to the script. I would love to see what someone more versed in scripting than I am can come up with working from my template.

yes the timmings are off, and I did figure they were easy enough to adjust to suit your needs. when I was testing the script I was concerned over the time it took for the script to run I didn't want to loose the player's intrest, so I made it relativly quick.

I was so obbsessed with getting this script to work, everytime i'd close my eyes to sleep I would see the word states floating accross my eyelids.

That's normal. There are days where I'm doing work around the house and keep hearing "plrdistwithin=50:pickuptoys,cookdinner,etc..."

I've added this thread to the General Script Information for others to find (in case this gets buried, there is a quick reference).

You know it's bad when you open the closet to get a jacket and think to yourself " this would be a great place for a med pack"

Thanks for adding it to the general list. If someone gets use out of it besides me. That's what it's all about.

Thanks again black, and I would be remiss if I didn't thank maho as well. Many a time he has patiently answered my questions.

This is a cool script. Do you HAVE to have v1.19 to use this? Or does it also work in v1.18?

Amf,

I wrote it on 119, but I believe the command are 116+
So you should be good at 118.

Let me know

This has given me many new ideas, Troutflies. Kind of actually brings me back to the idea of replicating some of fallout3's HUDs.

Press a key and have a template like that appear with tabs to load different stuff on the screen like an inventory, objectives and status.

I might even play with the idea of creating a screen hud that's actually a video in the background to show flicker on the screen and some lights blinking and such.

Great work on this template, Troutflies!

Hey Teabone,

The funny thing is when I came up with it I was doing it for a specific thing I wanted in the game I was working on. It wasn't till after it all came together did I realize how useful a template like that can be. I don't know if it's considered thinking outside the box. But thats what I was trying to do.

I know this is a very simple thing I should know but how do you activate this script? Can I use a trigger zone if so how would I go about it?

Runihadacow

Place a 'Trigger zone' in your game, right click on the zone (to bring up the zones status options),now in the 'AI Scripts' section change the 'Main' script for this one, apply the changes (bottom of page) and you should be good to go.
Now when the player enters this trigger zone the script will take over and run.

It's a very good script which can be altered to achieve many different scenarios.

@Trout I am doing the same thing but I already have the images done ect ect. I mixed the switch commands in with your script to produce when you press the action key next to a "Switch"(computer) you will get what your script already does. Thank you so much for your effort!

Glad to help Runihadacow. Show us what you came up with.

I am just finishing up another script like this to use later on in my game and it works a little bit different than the original I posted. Ill put it up here when it's all said and done.

Thank you for this. I have an idea on how to use this. I was actually going to post another question here but my idea and this download may have solved the problem.

I'll run tests on it to see how it interacts with my game. Appreciate it!

Cheers and Beers ,
