Hi all. I've done another tutorial showing you the basics of parallax scrolling. I plan to do at least one more, moving on to other more useful ways to do this.
Check it out here.

If the video looks blurry try upping the quality in Youtube to 1080p.

Nice, simple easy to follow.

You might be able to smooth out that jumping by using getframetime() in the movement line.

(unless that was just youtube )

Thanks Marl, it runs fine when I am not capturing, my PC seems a bit chuggy at present. But it is never great when capturing.
Thanks Rick! That should help views quite a bit.

@DVader

I just watch the video. very easy techinque you show. I just have one comment; were you setting the order of sprites to scroll.

would the command
Quote: "SetSpriteDepth ( iSpriteIndex, iDepth )"

work also.

for example a codebit i use in my code :

@leo877. Yes, you can set the depth manually. AppGameKit automatically sets the sprites depth according to the order they are created. I merely took advantage of this fact in the tutorial, and saved myself a few lines of code.
But yes, if you want absolute control of depth order you can simply set each sprite to the depth you wish. Zero is basically the front layer, and higher numbers will go back into the screen depth the higher they go.

Sprites are drawn in the order created yes, but are still set with the default depth of 10 I believe.

@ Phaelax. You are correct, it still works though I was just avoiding using the set depth commands really. I did mention in the video, I was being lazy
I've done the second tutorial earlier today, it's been encoding for ages now, and has a way to go I'll post a link when it is finally done and uploaded.

Thanks Ranietz, and miki for your support! It is appreciated.
I have a second parallax tutorial up on my page now, which allows you to use multiple images and hence far bigger, more varied levels.

Of course, now you know my voice, you will build up an image of what I look like in your head. Of course you will probably be wrong, and if you ever see my face on a video, it will seem odd! At least that is what happens to me when listening to someones voice on radio or youtube lol.
