Who fancies a UK users meet?

Call me crazy but I think it could be fun! I'd be willing to do a certain amount of organisation and we may even convince the TGC team to represent... we could even have a little code-a-thon!

What do you guys think? Location? Ideas?

Could be bigger than Unite one day!

I would be up for this.

Would prefer something loose and informal. Maybe a village somewhere where we could all meet up and we would maybe all be staying close to each other.

Could be a full weekend somewhere nice

I'd like to come along. Add my name to the list!

Southeast is best for me, but I can travel.

What if everyone interested sent me their location so I can organise a central meeting point?

Great idea... just crazy workload and family so not sure I'd be able to make it. If it were in the Southeast I might be able to duck out for a bit to put faces to names.

Agree Baxslash, it would be fun. Agree with informal!

I'd be interested. I think that your own location will be as central as it gets. It also makes it easier to organise.

I arranged the last one. Be warned, it can be quite a task just to get everyone in the same place. It's a good idea to find an affordable hotel where you can all stay, have your meals together and have use of a room with lots of power and broadband for the days events.

I'd be up for it.
I agree with BatVink, if Baxslash is organising then close to him would be easiest. It's also a pretty central location.
Though personally, I'd prefer the same location as the last few TGC conventions. Leeds, Headingley is perfect for me - it wasn't back then but it is now

It was ok, but it was a bit small. Having the entire building to ourselves only just made up for the cramped conditions and lack of outdoor thinking space...

I was just thinking from a purely selfish point of view.
Last time I had to commute from Blackpool but now I live in walking distance of Hinsley Hall

It's only 15 miles for me too. But I'm excluding myself from the organising, and just applying tremendous amounts of pressure on Baxslash with the photos of the last venue!

In all seriousness...the conventions in a pub back room prior to this were just as good if not better.

It sounds awesome, I doubt very much I'd be able to make it, but on the smallest of chances I can escape the rigors of daily life for a short time; count me in

I'm based in Milton Keynes, so the closer to there the better tbh lol

True 'nuff.
The one in Chichester was pretty good too.

Look what you've started now Bax ... you planted a seed and it has grown already - people are excited at the idea of it

So, have you got it booked yet?

...

What about now?

I was a bit chubby back then!

You've beaten me on names BatVink. I could only manage about 3/4 of the ones you mentioned.
I'm pretty useless with names!

Wait ...
Mike Johnson - just in front of you!

Forget that - I've just seen that you mentioned him already

Well, no pressure there then. Ok. I was thinking a BBQ or something in the back garden but this could grow big quickly.

So far it's looking like somewhere between Liverpool, Leeds, the South East and Derbyshire. I'm thinking (from a purely selfish point of view) that Derby sounds pretty central actually

I'll have a look into it and see what kind of official TGC interest there is. I'll report back.

How about near an Airport, perhaps Manchester, if people will come from around the world

But if everyone attending is from the uk then ...

East Midlands airport is 20 mins from Derby... Birmingham about an hour. If there are likely to be people coming from all over the world then I will consider a better location.

At previous conventions we had Ron Erickson and Cash Curtis from the US. BUT it was only by good fortune that they were already in the country. Previous experience is that people would like to come from abroad, but it doesn't happen. It's a long and expensive journey to share a few beers and anecdotes over a couple of days.

Depending on location and time I may turn up to this. It might be a good chance to preview the ebook rewrite, and demonstrate some of the online courses I've been making with CTe Learning.

Have we got a date and venue for this yet and has there been any feedback on whether TGC will be able to attend?

Earlier in the month is better for me (closer to pay day).

Thanks!

I'm trying to decide on something. TGC would like to attend but there's something in particular they'd like to showcase at the event. Trouble is it would push the event back until about September. What do you think, shall we wait till then and get a good official turnout or have it sooner? Votes please!

I would prefer to wait and have an official presence there.

However, if TGC are going to be in attendance then I would suggest changing it from AppGameKit meet to TGC meet and advertise it in DBP and FPSC boards as well.

September/October isn't too bad. Holding it in late July or August will limit the people able to attend due to holidays, and bump up the hotel prices.

I'd be up for this. Sept/Oct would be good for me and I think it would be good to have someone from TGC there.

I also agree with Scraggle about opening it up to the DBPro and GamesGuru users.

Ok, I'll keep in touch with Rick and organise something convenient. I'll bring my entire code base and share ANYTHING with ANYONE (it's messy so don't get excited). If someone wants to take some of my previous projects and run with them they are welcome. I think we could even create something from scratch over a weekend to be released for fun. Come along if you want some free Spine or Spriter characters too I'm happy to team up with some artists and create some crazy stuff to share. Let's really make this a fun and creative event!

I've contacted the National Videogame Arcade to see what their rates are like. Not sure how Nottingham as a location fits into all this, but I thought it might be worth a punt if it's cheap enough.
