Community Game Jam LINK

So recently I've been browsing around for a fun Game Jam to join up, since I have some extra time for the next few months, and I found a large one on itch.io, link above. The comp starts on Aug 24 and entries need to be in by the 31, theme will be released when it starts.

One thing I've noticed while browsing all the jams, is that they are dominated by Unity users, and it just seems crazy, because in my professional opinion AppGameKit is the better game development platform compared to Unity overall. So I got the brilliant idea, what if the mighty giant was dethroned? So now I'm here, looking to build a team with 1 - 3 other people, to create a game during the Jam period, build something incredible that will turn heads.

I'll be offering my skills in all things graphics related, and sound SFX. Whether it be 2d or 3d, I want the entry to stand out among the rest. So I'm looking for at least one other person to fill the position of programmer, and if a couple other people want to join my team as either music creator or anything else that could benefit our entry, the more the better.

Post here in this thread if you're interested, and we'll setup a way to communicate easier during the Jam period. Looking forward to teaming up with some fellow tgc'ers.

PS..willing to use either AppGameKit Classic, or AppGameKit Studio, I own both products.

I'm still in hospital waiting for a new hart, so I have plenty of time, except of the rare event of being hart transplanted
I never participated in a such a big event, but i'm keen to try it now and with you.
So if you want me, I can offer highly customized shaders, Multiplayer, 2D or 3D game logic and a lot of ambition

Hope there are more to join your team.

I'm itching to do another Game Jam so am interested too. Not sure what to do with the Unity prizes if we won though. Could we gift them away? Sell them?

I'm in too!

I can code a bit, but wouldn't feel comfortable being the main coder. Would love to do graphics, though!

I think the most effective would be AGK2. The new version has a lot of bugs. Still, would be fun to simply jump right onto AGK-S and see how it holds up on a serious project. And the scene editor would be handy, too. Coding a level design is a bit of a bother.

Great Idea JLMoondog, with so many interested may I suggest making a page on GitHub for the project
when it starts. This would make it easy for people to download and add there bits etc Ive found In the
past that I get greater community interest with sharing code like that and get more done in a shorter
time.

I really do think AppGameKit can do anything ive seen in the jams done in unity but quicker and possibly more
complete in time

Im kinda in the same boat @basicFanatic

You guys already have a great team assembled, so wishing you luck even though your skills won't need it.

I have not purchased Studio yet, so I will just enter as a loner with AppGameKit classic.

Not sure if I will be able to put a whole lot of time into this, so that is another reason for me to not commit to a team (don't want to let you down).

Again, best of luck to you guys!

Go AppGameKit!!!

I would love to hear from Moondog again.
So are we a team now ?
We could create a github entry and use discord, slack or something for a quick chat.
@Conjured Entertainment: maybe there is another one, you can team up with. So you both don't have alot of time to put into this TOGETHER !!!

@CE,

I'd like to join you on the B Team if you want to take a stab at this?

I'm in the same Hard to Commit boat but confident that I could do my part to put something together (i have plenty of coffee on hand)

Sounds good Virtual Nomad.

I guess we can start a 'B Team' officially at that site and close it once we team up.

That way, they know we are a team.

I am not at home at the moment, but I will check into that later.

Good luck with the medical issues. Wishing you the best.

AGK Team B for this Community Game Jam is live now..... https://crowdforge.io/jams/cgj

Not trying to high-jack this thread or post classic stuff in the studio forum, but wanted to let Virtual Nomad know about this in case he missed my PM.

I expect to have a better chance of having fun with this jam than winning it, but will give a good effort for AGK.

That team site wouldn't let me pick more than one thing as my contribution, so I listed CODE even though I am down with doing Design, Audio, and Graphics too.

The B Team can use other channels to communicate, so signing off in this thread... again, good luck guys!

Hey, didn't mean to wait so long to update and reply. My girlfriend has started her last year in college so we had a lot of running around yesterday to purchase all her stuff and get id made.

So it looks like we are going to have two teams entering, sounds awesome!

So it looks like Team A is: janbo, CJB, basicFanatic, and Myself? Maybe we can clarify who's on who's team so there's no confusion. I've never used github or discord, so does someone on team A want to handle that and post a link so we can group up and start to figure out team rolls?

Also a little clarification, when I said AGKC or AGKS, I was actually referring to AppGameKit 2, not the original AGK. Though I own all three, but would prefer to use AppGameKit 2, as I've heard AGKS still has some bugs that need to be worked out, and I'd rather go with the more reliable version and one I have thousands of hours into previously.

The comp starts in 3 days, so should give us plenty of time to organize and get ready.

Lastly, technically team requests aren't allowed, but this rule was put in place to deter the constant threads posted to find a team to build the ultimate MMORPG, but you must work for free, but I promise when we make money I'll cut you a percentage. If anyone remembers, this was a huge problem back in the day. This is more like a, hey let's team up for a week long comp, with prizes. I made a judgement call when posting, so if any other mods disagree, than they can lock the thread.

I can live without this rule.
I remember my first post in the German Dark basic forums, I must have written something wrong, so they thought I'm one of the: please make me code guys

I THINK I like github and I used it a few times, even at work...but still have problems with it
But yeah, let us make a repository.

A github repo is a good idea. We'll be working on different areas so there shouldn't be any conflicts, but communication is key there, so team A should all use the discord server Janbo just set up.

That is what I meant by AppGameKit Classic as well... AGK2

I used CrowdForge to assemble the B because it seems to be what the Jam is using via a link they provide, and you can see that all the Jam's teams are listed there.
You guys may want to consider using that as well, so there will not be any confusion on their part as to who was on your team when it comes time to collect your prize(s).
Just a thought.

Hey Conjured, they won't know who's on your team until you submit your entry. Only one person in your team has to register with the comp, and only one should so there's no confusion, which is done through the itch.io site, so you'll need an account. I've taken care of A team. Someone on B team will need to register through the site and when it comes time to submit, if you guys need help just let me know. When you submit your entry, it asks you to list all the people on your team. Easy-peasy living breezy.

The CrowdForge link they provided is just optional, and is mainly for people who are looking for a group, or looking for peps to join their group. Team A is just going to stick with discord and github and once completed I'll be submitting the entry with my account.

Cool
I have never competed in any of their Jams before, so was unaware on their submission process.
Was just pointing out the link they provided, since it looked like that was where they were keeping track of the teams.
I registered at both sites just for this Jam, but it doesn't matter to me which one of us submits the entry.
Thanks for the help.

On a side note: I was checking out the other Jams and discovered SideFX because one of the Jams was offering a free 2 month trial of the Houdini Indie software, but the deadline to take advantage of that offer was 5pm today, and I wasn't able to download it in time, so I missed it.
I will be checking out these Jams from now on though, because a lot of them are very cool. (like that Houdini software)

Outside of the Jams.... That Houdini software does have a free version called Houdini Apprentice, which I think I will be downloading to give that a try before committing to any licensing. Some of their software options are steered to big studios and are very expensive, but the Indie version is affordable and suited to small fries like me. Hard to imagine how I had missed out on this stuff for so long with so many big studios like Pixar and Disney using it, but I do not use/explore any high end software because of the high end prices associated with them, but Houdini may be the exception..

Great to see everyone interested in taking part in something as a community.

Officially we don’t allow team requests but as stated we normally make an exception for community competitions, it really is down to the mod team, as a mod posted this I guess that means it’s fine with the mods. I also agree this is an allowed exception.

Less that a day to go until the submission deadline! It has been an interesting week. Team A are in good shape to get something quite special submitted despite a number of unavoidable setbacks.

My personal feeling on team requests is: Loosen up the "no team requests allowed" rules a bit more. If people want to socialise and make games together, I'm all for it. We should do this more often! It has been good fun this week.

How's Team B getting on?

The coder has twitching fingers from too many keystrokes, and the graphics guy is loosing his eyesight from the 32x32 sprites. Other than that, we are struggling to meet the deadline.

This is my first time being on a team for a jam, and VN is an excellent partner. I feel like I am not doing nearly as much work on this as he is, even though I am devoting most of my free time on it. I wish we had a little more time to polish things, but if we can finish and get it in on time, then it will all be groovy. One or two more team members and we wouldn't have been working the fun out of it. VN is a trooper, and I am really fortunate to have him as a partner. With that said, back to the grindstone, because I have an all-nighter ahead of me.

Looking forward to seeing what the A team comes up with, so don't forget to link it from here, please.

Cimex Mortis is still with 13 ratings it wont let me rate any because I don't have my own submission apparently
but just curious if both teams have rated their own and ofcourse the others. You need 20 Ratings to be considered and Cimex Mortis
is kinda close
