Currently studying Software Development and I'm working my way through a project. I decided to create a standard shoot em up using DarkBASIC, nothing too difficult, just something that works basically. For example, a character, level, a couple of guns and some enemies. Having never used DarkBASIC before, I havent learnt any of the coding yet so I was just wondering, how difficult and time consuming would this kind of thing be to learn and create?

Any help you can give me would be great as I am starting to get a little worried regarding this!

Thanks

Incredibly difficult!!

DB is a programming language not a 'drag and drop' game-maker.

Programming is a skill or artform and cannot be learnt overnight and like French, German, Italian or Russian, you have to spend time learning it.

The 3D program you describe is roughly equivalent to A-Level Russian, whereas you sound like you don't yet know the alphabet.

If you want to reach a level where you can write those types of program, you need to learn the basics, get a good grounding in programming principles, learn all the commands and be able to apply them in 2D.

You can then move up to 3D with the skills you've learned. All this obviously can't be done in a couple of weeks. However, persevere and you'll find the time spent well worth it.

The alternative is a product like FPSC which I believe is a bit more drag and drop and less programming.
