My computer currently as A pentium processer and is a dimension 3100 I was looking at some core 2 dou processers but Dell says that I cant install a dual core one. Is this true or are they just lying?

Perhaps your motherboard doesn't support the Core 2 duo processors.

It's very likely you don't have a dual-core-capable motherboard. I just upgraded to an AMD 4200 X2, and had to get a motherboard too.

You can get mobo/processor/memory/fan prebuilt kits from places like Novatech and Savastore in the UK.

Depends how they mean that you can't install one. Is it a technical limitation or is it more that it's not something you can do under the warrenty? If you find out what motherboard it is you should be able to google it and find out what processors it supports.

Dimension 3100 - E310 motherboard
Intel 915 chipset
supports LGA775

That's really all the info I found. (found info in an ebay auction)
Also found something saying its a BTX board, which I'm not so sure of. So dont take the above specs as pure fact.
