I've been extremely busy for the past couple of months doing a contract game job. I'm still under an NDA so I can't discuss it, but it is totally fabulous and I can't wait until it is revealed to the public. I've got a two month break now so I want to get Geisha House wrapped up.

It uses the game engine as Geisha House, which I've returned to with all of the new code. I've started a new thread...

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=100398&b=8

What I need now are some awesome songs to give it that polished and professional feel. Here's what I'm looking for...

Threatened
Threatened 2
Combat!
Combat 2!
Idle 1
Idle 2
Idle 3
Evil is nearby
Enter the Gates of Hell
Game lost (ominous)
Game over (ominous, too)

Fallout did a main theme for the game, which is beautiful. It fits perfectly. I do need to fill the rest of the game with music, though.

The songs don't have to be that long. The idle songs can be about a minute, as well as the combat and Evil is nearby music. Ideally the game over songs would be around two minutes, as the Gates of Hell song. More or less is fine, of course.

The game will take on a somewhat Spanish style, rather than the standard English or Elves With Laser Pistol fantasy styles you frequently see in games. In addition, the game will have a bit of an Asian influence.

As far as the music goes, horns and drums are great, and necessary for some things, especially combat. I am not afraid of other instruments, and I am fond of acoustic guitars. If anyone remembers, Diablo 1 had a faint Spanish touch to the music and had acoustic guitars with great effect.

If anyone is interested, you can e-mail me at my listed e-mail address, or post here. Ideally, I would like to listen to some of your work.

Thanks everyone!! I look forward to hearing some great stuff, I know there are lots of talented musicians here.

Ah, you should look into the music of Ennio Morricone, he did some amazing stuff for the old Clint Eastwood cowboy flicks. I have one of his albums, really great music to chill out to, might be what your after and musicians just love it when you know what you want. Mexican I know, but his style is what I think you'll appreciate, moody and orchestral, but with a 'nacho' vibe.

Yeah - Not long completed the DS version of Nacho Libre, that's a very very strange game, good though.

I think more people should look to these films for inspiration, the Good The Bad and the Ugly for instance, is very atmospheric, the soundtrack has everything to do with that - lots to be learned from old cowboy movies .

My brother and I discussed that very thing a few days ago. The song you're probably thinking of is Ecstasy Of Gold, by Ennio Morricone, of course. Very, very awesome soundtrack, it really gives that movie a feel that is all its own. It communicates a lot of things - the frontier, epic majesty, justice, vigilante freedom. It is an excellent place to look for inspiration

I'd love to hear some of your work. I'm interested of course in fantasy inspired music. How about a 30 second battle theme for me to get a feel for your work? Here is the feeling - desperate, intense fighting, you are surrounded and outnumbered.

Hey Cash

I whipped this 0:55 song up for you. Hope you like it, i don't know were it would fit best, maybe as a game over soundtrack? I could "lengthen" it if you wanted to as it's kinda short, ofcourse just ask if you want something changed and i'll do it as i'm in this world solely to be taken advantage of........

HAHA my evil trick is at hand, now you will have to accept the song in it's current state and never ask me for anything ever again!!1!.....brilliant!

I'm alright at the old music (I don't read music though):
Paper Jones <- Song i made a while back
Wallace and Gromit <-Theme from wallace and gromit
Your Ladyship <-Another song from wallace and gromit
Wallace and Gromit Scary<-Scary tune from wallace and gromit
Lost <-Theme from lost

I can also sing, and create barber shop/choir notes. All i do is i overlay different tracks of me singing. I just couldn't perform it live thats all lol!:

See if you can guess this tune : Link

Cheers,

Just out of curiosity, what's in it for the composer? Sounds like you want music for free. Will there be credit given, or monetary compensation?

That is an excellent song. A little heavy on the synth, though. That makes it sound like a modern epic.

@Lucifer -
I had to make a new MSN account, but it is cash.curtis@gmail.com. I've added you now...

@BiggAdd -
Your work is good. Could you whip up a short song, maybe 30 seconds, perhaps in the theme of "Enter the Gates of Hell"? Or another theme if you prefer.

I'm sorry, I thought my intent was clear. I am looking for quality free music for use in Geisha House. Contributing musicians will of course get credit, I don't understand how you could legally or morally consider giving credit an option, whether or not you've paid.

Just buy a royalty free music CD from the net. They only cost about £30-90 for 10 tracks.

Ok loaded up the song. It was a bit rushed.

Title : "Enter the Gates of Hell". Its not a full song, just a teaser. The full song will probably be 3-4 mins long.

I'm usually the first to tell someone to bugger off and use Google, but if you know of a resource could you point me to it? All of my attempts have been unsuccessful. I have stock music, but out of 30 songs I can only use 2. They're all pretty generic and sound about them same.

@BiggAdd -
That was awesome. It was more of a "I Just Escaped From Hell and I Left a Piece of Myself Behind", but I loved what I heard and I felt really felt it. A song like that would be absolutely perfect for the game.

Can you do a short battle theme, just a short sample for me to get a feel for your vision? I really appreciate it!!

@Grandma -
The song is constructed perfectly. My only problem with it is that the main instrument sounds like extremely synthesized. Not too loud, but so distinct that it noticable over the rest of the song. It sounds like it is supposed to be a deep stringed instrumentment, but instead sounds like a key on a midi keyboard. A great song, but at this point a bit out of place.

That was very good. However, it wouldn't fit with a battle, exactly. Imagine being surrounded by 5 enemies, trying your best to hack them to pieces and trying not to die. The song, while good, is sedate for that scene. It is almost as if you are having a dream about fighting rather than engaged in battle.

I added you to my MSN.

@ Cash: I thought u meant epic battle. My Bad.

@Lucifer: you need to change the format of the midi notes to output in channel 2 3 4 etc. I dont know what other program you are using so i cant help you any more than that!
