In the darkness they waited and planned and schemed.

In secrecy they gathered their forces and relit the furnaces of their War Factories.

Out of the ashes of their previous defeat, the Bungeling Empire has rebuilt itself.

Only you can stop them from building and launching their weapon of total destruction from the Bungeling battleship 'Behemoth'; the Atmospheric Incineration Missile.

Looking nice - I hope you keep it as 'arcadey' as the original and not try to turn it into a flight sim

Thanks Gil and Richard, doing my best.

You're right Richard when moving in to 3D it is hard to keep this game from becoming just a flight sim. But I try to maintain a balance. For instance, you have your 5 initial "lives" and your score constantly displayed. The flight model is also very simplistic, there is no real learning curve. Turn left, go left. Turn right, go right. 3 keys to go up, down or center the "collective". There is no pitching of the player helicopter. I'll post more on the gameplay in my next post. For now, here are some more shots (I'm not the worlds greatest 3D modeler so be kind ). The islands in the game were made with T.ED

Approaching a Bungeling Airfield:

Looking at the hangers (fighters on the left, bombers on the right)

Factory flyby (to the left you can see a tracer whizzing by, shot from one of the factory's guardians based on a zsu 23-4 Shika)

Now some shots of the Bungeling Empires defenses:

A Bungeling Fighter taking off:

The models aren't spectacular but they're mine and they work.

Thanks Dark Tank. (When will the link in your sig work? I'm intrigued)

Definitely recommend playing the original if you get a chance. You can play the C-64 version if you have an emulator like WinVICE which you can get here:

http://www.viceteam.org/

And then you just need the disk image which you can get here (just look under the 'Games' section under 'R':

I haven't posted in a while but work has continued on the game.

I completed the enemy battleship 'Behemoth' and here are a couple of shots of it in action.

Front view, the enemy has almost completed building it:
http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bship1mn5.jpg

Side view, about to leave port:
http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bship2tq1.jpg

Out of port, pursuing the player's Carrier:
http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bship3mr3.jpg

Here are a couple of shots showing the enemy bomber's attacking the player Carrier:

You can see the bomb falling to the left and above the black bomber:
http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bomb1pk7.jpg

In this shot one bomb has hit and another is falling (it's visible just under the number 21 in the player's compass):
http://img411.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bomb2vj9.jpg

I'm also attaching a draft of the game manual, see that attachment.

More to come.

Well I found a problem with joystick detection in the Beta 1.0 release that could effect some people. Also the game now ensures you have a joystick before continuing. So...Beta 1.0.1 is now available.

Uninstall the Beta 1.0
Download Beta 1.0.1 here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/30809709/RTBBV11.rar
RAR password is still: bungeling2007

Install Beta 1.0.1

Not wanting to exclude the possible millions of people who no longer use a joystick, Beta 1.0.2 now supports both joystick and mouse play.

Also included during the install is a small INI to allow the player to adjust joystick and mouse deadzones.

You can download version 1.0.2 here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/31741201/setup.exe

(I tried uploading the file here but the File Uploader Applet kept insisting the file was to large even though it is only 44 MB)

I did not RAR this version since the installer program does a good job of compressing the files all on its own.

If you downloaded a previous version just UnInstall, Download Beta 1.0.2 and reinstall by running SETUP.EXE.

Here's something cool that I found (and related to this thread), someone actually beating the original 1984 game "Raid on Bungeling Bay" in around 8 minutes. Amazing.

Check it out.

I used to love playing the original game on my Commodore 64 when it was new. It looks like you put some effort in this judging by the screenies.

I tried your version as soon as i seen it but had some trouble from the start.
I changed the install drive to D: but it installed on c: anyway and only put the uninstall on D:.Of course that meant the shortcut on the desktop couldn't find it.

After that was sorted i ran the application and lost the monitor signal which caused the monitor to go into power saving mode.
Ready to quit,I press escape. My monitor springs back to life and is forced to 1024x768 resolution.Ok,i can handle that.

Alas, the screen was blue and blank.

I followed up with a series of random keystrokes and mouse clicks until ending with a ctrl+alt+del.

Twice! LOL! I'm stubborn like that.

I admit I haven't played nor downloaded neither the original nor this version, but I must admit the looks are very professional. If I can get some spare time, I'll give this one a try, it has looked very promising right from your first post.

This is cool. Very complicated though. I looked at the instructions first, but couldn't commit them all to memory. First play i couldn't fire at anything. Next time i realised about pressing the "t" key, and later that i couldn't fire AGMs at boats or the cannon at the SAMs and buildings and stuff. Last thing i crashed into the carrier trying to land on it.

I imagine this game gets more fun once you've learned how to play. I think i have a tendency to do a similar thing in my games- tailor the difficulty and complexity to myself, when i've been playtesting the game for months and know how it works literally inside-out. Perhaps it would be cool to have a beginner's level or a tutorial, but that is a big job, and probably wasn't in the original. Maybe i just need to keep playing and tough it out.

It is technically impressive though. I really like what you did with some of the HUD things. Perhaps i'll nick that. Also the chain gun is pretty awesome.

Mr Bigger: Thanks for the feedback. I'll look at those problems with the installer. I hadn't tried installing it to a different drive but I see the problem even trying to install to a different folder. It's the first time I've used the Inno installer and looks like I missed something. I'll check out the graphic mode problems you encountered also. The game was pretty much hard coded to 1024x768 and I didn't have the problem you had on my desktop or laptop but every computer is different. I'm also putting in a 640x480 option in the next release; this will probably become the default resolution.

the_rami: Hope you try the game and thanks.

Mr Tank: Glad you were able to get it to run. A training level is a great idea, should have included it at the beginning. I'll have to see if I can retrofit it in. The controls get easier after playing it about a hundred times.

I'm curious it how it runs on other rigs (fps). Mine unfortunately is showing its age but the game is still playable.

Just a hint:
I do not have MFC71.DLL, and I think you should have used the
/MT or /MTd compiler switch to staticallyy link the C[pp] runtime
environment in.

Thanks,

Hmm, since this game was written entirely in DB Pro I don't believe that is an option.

Just getting back from a long vacation. Should have another update soon.
