Recently my Wii started acting up: every once in a while - begining to sound like every day - after inserting a new CD and selecting the game channel, the drive spins and clunks for a while and the I get a black screen that says, in white lettering something like

"Please eject the CD, switch your console OFF and check the Wii manual"

I then have to switch off the console by pulling the plug (eject, power and reset won't work)! If I then switch it on it operates correctly.

Anyone gets this? I don't mind living without it for a while and sending it to get fixed, but I am concerned that they give me a new one and I lose my Zelda saves...

I can't confirm this, but aparrently USB mass storage devices work in the USB ports on the back (friend said this). Can you copy your saves that way? Or ask Nintendo to put them on your replacement console?

Since the other one was scaring you guys so much...

dont feel bad, back in the day we had to literally blow on the cartridges to get them to work in nintendo, and "saves" ? What were those?

I remember the good ole' days of blowing on NES and SNES cartridges. It's funny, people everywhere did that. I swear, if you gave an NES to kids living in some far-away village who've never even seen a pen, let alone a gaming console, they'd work out blowing on the cartridge to get it to work .

A friend of mine had to replace her Wii because it had trouble similar to this, I'll ask her if she has anything helpful to say about it, but I know she was super-peeved over it. Good thing it happened before the warranty gave out.

If you get tired of blowing your nintendo games out, search eBay for NES 72-pin connector. Change the part out in 10 minutes, and your NES works like brand new!

That's awesome, I should look for that. I love the original Shadowrun... I always wished they re-made that game on a modern console or even the PC.

too bad about your wii...hopefully it can be fixed

NES days were a blast...though, some games had the 'battery' in them, like zelda 2 and others that allowed you to save your game

but man, i remember getting high from blowing so hard and fast then shoving it in the NES before my 'blowing on it' wore off, lol!

Your Wii might be toast--- call up your local Nintendo branch and get them to replace it. It should still be under warranty, especially if you registered your console and extended it by 3 months.

Nintendo of Canada is about a 15 minute drive from here and they repair your console while you wait--- for free! They might do the same thing for your area.

Don't worry about your saves! I was reading about someones experience with Nintendo and he said they replaced his entore Wii and transferred all his saves, Miis, Information and Wii points to his new console! So that shouldn't be a problem!

I wish Nintendo of Australia had something like this! You can register youR Wii in the US and get 3 months extra warranty or you can get something for registering a game, but here in AUS nothing! Make you want to cry!

I'm sure it's not going to be as easy here in Portugal. There is no such thing as "Nintendo Portugal": Nitty are represented by Concentra, who are also the importers for Barbie and Mattel (!). I'm sure the best they'll be able to do is give me a new one... but I don't want to play through Zelda all over again!

They should be able to transfer your saves.

It could be overheating, the only time mines crashed is when its been on standby for a week (if you don't already know the fan does not spin when on standby and if you have connect24 on it begins to heat up, a lot) and i was on the web browser,(which the fan also doesn't spin on) and it crashed and i had to turn it off by the plug.

Try not leaving it on standby for a bit (if you don't already) and then trying the game after about a day or so. If not, i'd get it checked by someone who knows what they are doing

I don't think it's overheating. I've got the standby off (i.e. red light) and it occasionally crashes as soon as I start it up, if I switch the disk.

I have the Wii standing up, though not on the angled base (not enough headroom in the niche it needs to sit). I'll try to put it flat on horizontally and see if that helps.

I'm getting this problem. The Wii makes a nasty clicking noise and I occassionally get the error you described.

I heard a story on a podcast where the Wii began permanently displaying this error screen and Nintendo replaced it pretty quickly. I'm not sure about the game saves though. I'm trying to complete Zelda:TW before I phone I nintendo.

I haven't seen a option for copying game saves onto anything/ I have 1gb SD card and that doesn't seem to change it.

(By the way, I've had mine lying flat the whole time.)

THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO TRANSFER SAVES!?

If they do I'll be pissed. When I got my Wii back all my save data was gone. That was a 99% complete Zelda (according to the TP calculator, my Red Steel Data, my 60 Miis, my Elebits data, etc. <.< =/
