Hello!

I started work on a new game. I call it Sparks!
I have no idea how that word came to mind but it will do for now.

About the game
You are a spaceship.
The goal of the game is to kill all enemies.

Game Modes
Arcade Mode (not finished)
Play through 50 levels and try to get the highest score
Time Challenge (not implemented)
Play through 50 levels and try to do it in the shortest amount of time

High score
There's an In-game high score. So if you have a firewall, make sure to allow the game to go online.
You can view the "top 5" players from inside the game.
You can view the "top 20" players here: (i need to write the php script first)

This shows a lot of potential. I like the control scheme and movement. Kind of like a smoother robotron with a mouse. It'd be cool if you put a special weapon to the second mouse button, or if it was used to lock on to enemies.
At the moment the only thing the mouse cursor position determines is the direction you shoot at. If you had a weapon like a grenade launcher, it could be primed to explode at the position of the cursor (assuming it didn't hit anything on the way), meaning the player has more control.

thanks for the feedback.
I like the idea about a secondary trigger, and I will see if I can get the "missile" feature implemented.

it will have to wait though, until I get more of the game engine done.

Update: v0.5

Unfortunately I only have time to work on this game during weekends.
So the progress is quite slow. anyway,

Today I finished v0.5

Fixes/Updates:
* you can die
* more sounds
* improved graphics (borrowed some from limefly.net or codersturf.com really, however I've made most myself)
* added music, created by matt mcfarland
* fixed lots of bugs
* improved game engine (now runs at constant 66fps (on my computer))

Tomorrow I hope I will be able to add some new enemies, and make more levels

Just finished level 7.
you will notice the fps is 7. that's because I just exited the pause menu.

version 0.5 - 6'863 kb

There are a total of 10 levels.
If you try it out, let me know what frame rate you got.

Hi Lukas,

I just downloaded the newest version and gave it a go. A really like it! The menu looks cool, and the effects in the game so far really ads a great feeling to the game. And I like the gameplay too.

Very well done, keep working on this project!

My score was pretty bad though..
17938

I will play it on and off through the night and see if I get any further.

[EDIT]

My FPS was on a stable 66.

139953. (completed after 3 tries)

Nice. It's improved a lot.
Basically it's a lot of fun. Reminds me a lot like Robotron in that it's really frantic, and you're constantly trying to avoid getting dead whilst shooting all over the place. It is a bit confusing at times- for instance the shooty spaceships are a bit hard to find, and I often lost track of the crosshairs when loads of stuff was happening. Basically it might be worth tweaking the colours of brightness and largeness of stuff a bit.
I also got 65-66 fps

I got to wave 7 after a few tries, To improve the game:

1) Make the crosshair more visible, as it's rather hard to see during combat.

2) Add a new game button after the game over, as running the exe again is rather annoying.

3) Add support for the users native desktop res, as having the jump from 1024x768 to 1360x768 is rather stupid as most users won't have widescreen monitors.

Other than that it's got alot of potential to be cool .

Just finished the highscore:

The Nerd,
Thanks

Mr Tank,
Yea, I will have a look at that once I get more done.

dark coder,
Thanks for the tips.
also now once you die you enter your name (or just press Enter) and it will either add you to the highscore, or if no connection is found it will transfer you back to the main menu.

a problem I found though is that it takes about 1minute to delete all objects :/ why I don't know.

PS: when you get game over and after you enter your name (or just press enter),
it will delete all media. this is nescesary for the next round of gaming.
however, it takes a v. long time and I don't know why.

Nice one. I don't lose track of the crosshairs anymore. New green baddies are cool. Didn't see the others because i lost on level 15. I'll try again later. The "deleting game cache" thing seemed to take forever, so i had to quit via the taskbar menu.

Yes, that I am aware of. I too quit through the taskbar.

I suspect each level the game create new objects, instead of re-using the ones already made.

My solution for this is to load approximetely 200 entities of each enemy/object before the menu starts.

though, I will have to look closer at this on Saturday, when I get the time to work on this again.

looking cool , I can't download it now though cause I'm not home .
Not trying to hijack the thread but did you ever get my email, I sent it like a week and a half ago, but you haven't responded, so I may not have sent it to the right address (I sent it to the n0id one). Anyway, I won't be able to respond for a few days cause I'm gone skiing. Like I said, sorry to hijack the thread, but it's the only way I can reach you. The game does look good though .
