What's up guys, it's not very often when i actualy contribute something inthe model area, I mostly off brand comments and tutorials. I have decided that I have not given enough to you guys, so here is my latest contribution. It's a barrel..WOOHOO! I know it's a simple model but I spent hella time making the texture, I hand painted eery aspect of it. There is a bit of a problem though, for some reason the seam is a little blurred, it wasn't like thie last night but decided to go crazy on me this morning....

Here is the obligatory screenshot...

I have included the .x file, the blank uvmap and the texture map. Have fun with it. I'd be glad to see some of your guys retextures...

Cheers!
RF

Nice work Dave; we could always use more barrels (especially something other than a metal one).

Nice work on the texture. Looks good. I like the wood grain a lot. You may want to make people aware that it's a 1024x1024 texture though. I know you did that wile painting and such, but something of this size could be 512 or even 256 to save on load time.

One comment: I'd watch the use of the dodge and burn tool. It looks excellent in this situation, but it's a very bad habit to get into using it. The use of those 2 tools essentially "deadens" the pixels you see the effect on. Your going to be much better off using a separate layer with black painted on it and the layer property changed for the burn tool, and white on a separate layer in various blending modes in place of the dodge. Though it looked great for this barrel, it's a really nasty habit to get into using those tools regardless of what some online tutorials tell you.

Nice texture, man.

You hand painted the wood? Wood is so hard to texture (without pictures)! Jeez! Good job.

Thnka guys! I am trying to get alot better, and seems that I may be doing things correctly at the moment.

Here is the barrel texture reduced to a 512x512 texture instead of the goliath 1024z1024 size previously posted..

Cheers!

ok last chance to get this bad boy! I know it's only one model but I am working on two more at the moment. I'll post screens when I get them in the editor....

I also realize why the texture stretched..I adjust the geomitry after I mapped it...oops my bad. If you all want I will post the fixed version. or if you like this I can leave it alone/

Cheeers!

RF, thanks for the barrel. Since I'm not an artist and am totally at a loss with programs to help one make entities, I really appreciate getting anything. That cart sounds interesting, too.

As opposed to Highlander.

Thanks for the model. Any word on licensing? Can we throw this in a commercial/freeware game and use it without royalties? Just wondering, and keep up the great work.

All,

Thanks for looking. I hope you all find a good use for this model. I forgot to mention that the texture is 1024x1024. That's the size that I paint in and I forgot to resize it.

If anyone wants the blank UVmap let me know. I think I am going to unwrap this one more time. I found some problem areas in the texture that are spawned from the way I unwrapped it.

[edit]
Appears that I was unwrapping most of the models wrong! there are about 5 different ways to unwrap things in Blender and then there is my way..Uhm..think I'll stick to the Blender way from now on.
[/edit]

Cheers,
Dave
