Just these past few days, whenever I goto google.com I get forwarded to google.nl

At first I figured it was a hijacker virus or something, but I ran a virus scan and spybot and found nothing. My Apple is doing the same thing, so I'm pretty sure this is a Google issue.

I also found this website with some interesting details:

Anybody have an idea how I can get around this stupid google problem?

Hmm, I still get sent to .com just like normal, I'd say maybe it's a regional thing, but we both live pretty close together so that may not be the case.

Interesting article though. I suppose that's a good reason why it seems there aren't many foreign sites on the internet. You should have the option to turn that off though if you ask me.

will prevent it bouncing you to your country, like it does with me to the .au version

Its probably happening due to your ISP. Google tried to detect your location based on your IP - seems yours is originating from NL. Are you using a custom proxy?

I would support the ISP / region theory. It's a pain when you know where you want to go, and Google thinks it knows better.

In theory - google does. If you're using one of these "private" proxies to mask your web usage, etc... That might be in a different country and therefore, as far as google knows, you're not in the UK.

Look in the bottom right hand corner of the Google homepage:

"Go to Google.com" - It even saves this preference when you return to the site.

Google isn't trying anything evil, the article is putting a negative slant on things, it's just trying to be useful (a very good idea, in my opinion).

no proxy, nothing different about my service from last week. Thanks guys, I got it set now.

I'm on Insight cable from Ohio, no idea why it would be originating from NL.
