Here is my website it has forums, free entities and segment, a guest book and more. The entities are quality, not junky ugly things. Not being horrible but there are a growing number of these type of sites so you do have some competition, from what I can see you don't have much to offer a visitor in the way of useful information especially.

It is a 'free' FPS site Cheese Cake so why should he even consider paying for hosting if he's not going to be making money there

Actually if he wants to obtain regular visitors he should exchange links with similar sites, get listed in Google and Yahoo.

All that is a lot of hard work if not making anything from it.

Depends what you want... a site with regular members or just occasional freebie hunters when you advertise some new content on FPSC forums.

For regular visitors who contribute you need to have content that they will want to come back to use time and time again.

You can download free media from my site (up to this point I am not charging for anything) and I pay for my site.
"Why would I pay for the site if I am not selling anything?" you ask.
Simple...
No ads.
I can host any size file I want.
No bandwidth restrictions.
I can do what I want when I want.
Unlimited design possibilities.

These are just a few reasons and it only runs me around $7.00 USD a month.
I think if someone has just started out and they want to make their first site Freewebs is not a bad choice.

what do you mean time and time again? you only need to download the same entity once. And besides it has forums that you don't need to be a member to post. And it's frequently updated.

If you are using others files in your site, and uploaded them without a permission you are breaking the laws.

Brian Lizotte from FPSFree.com and others has permission to use files in there website because they've asked the creator of it.

I want to add another thing, in my own sites I never put ads for the simple reason that ads make the site look bad.

And I rather go to FredP's site than darimc's because:

1. He knows more than darimc.
2. His site looks better and more professional, and it has no ads its a paid site, paid hosting and paid domain.
3. He knows what he's talking about, and thats a positive thing, as a moderator you need to know a lot about FPSC.

Man. Right when I made my website, I swear like ten threads of "Hey check out my website" came out. Yes I am using freewebs but I will soon upgrade to a premium user. Possibly at freewebs, or some other site.

To me, this is just another rip off from my site.

Are you saying that darimc does not have a right to create his own FPSC community type site and to promote FPSC material and games?

No that's not what I think at all. What I'm saying is, right when I made my site through freewebs, like 10 more came out. Freewebs is a waste of time. It wasted my time. I never bothered to post in any other of them. But now another came, so I did post. I'm sorry for having an opinion. He has all the right, but he's going to find that it will be wasteful.

Jenkins your screenshots look fine taking into account the computer specs you have, surprised you can do that much actually with running FPSC on that computer.

By the way, if they don't give you feedback it's probably because they are speechless and wondering how you get away with it

Yeah premium is the way to go. Also, send your site to a bunch of directories/search engines. I did that and my site JUMPED in views.
