auto turret? as in it shoots by itself? Well that's about as simple as it goes. Model a turret. Give it a standing still script that shoots. There is one of those around here somewhere.

There already is one: it's called "snipe".

Just add a enemy-entity you want to act as a turret, then change it's MAIN- AI-script to the "snipe" (it's in the people-folder). Lower the rate of fire to get rapid fire, and vola!

In the future:
1) Read the README
2) Search the forums
3) Experience with things, see what happens!

If you have already modelled a turret (modelling is something I don't personally want to do as yet) then use the "strafe.fpi" in the main property of the entity. Use the "shoot.fpi" in the shoot property. If you don't have your own automated turret, you can use a character entity and give him/her a machine gun. Using strafe will cause the entity to be rotated to the player. It basically will not move out of position as to either follow the player or run away from the player. Using the script as a template you can also modify it to do whatever you would like it to do.

As opposed to Highlander.

Sounds like you need a turret. Must go to the media forums for media. Do a search for "turret" in the media forum or do a search in all forums and then select only the fpsc media forum results. It is still possible to use the strafe/shoot combo for any turret entity you might find. BTW, there are some threads available but I would rather you do the search. Need to learn how to do that.

As opposed to Highlander.

With the snipe-AI the enemy shouldn't "move", only turn around to face the player. You can always set the enemy's speed to 0 , just to be sure.
You will most likely need to turn the physics off of the entity too, if you want it to hang from the ceiling.

It sucks as a turret script, BUT it would be AMAZING in a horror game. If you have a room that has a roof and you apply it to an enemy, this is what it does: It starts to defy gravity, floats up. When it gets to the roof it goes a different way. When you walk into it, its like a ghost, you can go inside it but it doesn't hurt. Lastly, if you shoot it it backs up but won't die. It's kinda like that creepy girl from F.E.A.R. I may post a video.
