It all depends on:
1) your motivation
2) your interest
3) your learning ability
4) your intelligence/previous knowledge

So there's no definite answer. Anywhere from 4 months to 4 years .

I think you are asking how much time it will take for you to learn DarkBasic well enough to program a game like the two you mentioned.

Programming skills obviously will depend upon the individual, but without a doubt you are quite a ways away from making a game like the ones you mentioned. It would be unreasonable to expect you could crank out a game like these in a week starting from ground zero. Don't kid yourself, it's not going to happen.

I would suggest you view the tutorials provided by TGC and fellow coders and get some sort of idea yourself of the effort it would take to do a Crash Bandicoot game. It would be a lot of work, but it is fun if you enjoy the challenge. Generally speaking, it is better to start off with simple games, like a pong or a breakout kind of game and work your way through 2D stuff like pacman (there's a tutorial for that) before you venture into 3D worlds and characters.

Good luck. I hope this helps you.

Well... (Quisco DaLuse) you tell me about Tutorials provided by TGC.

Wolvardo, I was hoping you would respond like that!

Here is a link to several tutorials:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=96010&b=7

You can search the forums for whatever you are interested in by using one of the two boxes below where you post. I'm sure if you search the forums, you will find the pacman tutorial.

If after making an effort to figure something out you get stuck, you can always review threads/posts and see what other coders have done to resolve problems or get answers to questions. Other coders expect that you will put effort into figuring out a problem yourself before asking for help. At that point, if you're still stuck, ask the question. That's what these forums (and particularly this thread) are about.

Good luck, I wish you well!

Same here, I'm always happy to see someone enthusiastic about learning, and willing to do what it takes. Realize that during the time your learning your not going to be bored to death, and it can be pretty fun (you can also start smaller projects while learning). It's a long journey, but not a boring/difficult one .
