I'm trying to figure out the typical security stats of computer users for my school. My question is how many characters are in your password? (note: you dont have to tell me if you dont want to)

On a scale from one to ten one being very smart and ten being an absolute genius your none of the above

password recovery speeds are documented around the internet, which will give you an indication of the type of password usage as well.

For me it depends on the site and requirements - anywhere between 5 and 9 characters.

More importantly than length:
1) Is it a dictionary word (or derivative of)
2) How many of the "four" does it use? (uppercase, lowercase, number and symbol)

I find I don't totally care about how easy my passwords are to crack on forums and other sites like that. However, my ebay, paypal, newegg etc. passwords would be much harder to figure out. I usually have about 8 characters with at least one numeric character. My password is different on almost every site, so I suppose that if someone got my password for one site, it would be hard for them to get my other passwords, since they are all different.

I have no signature...

I couldn't tell you offhand my passwords, as they're mostly based on finger patterns on the keyboard. Circular, diagonal up then straight down, that sort of thing. Really hard to guess.

i have 7 characters in mine, but i really hate when websites force password requirements on you. i found the OUAC website to be the worst so far, required at least 3 lowercase, 3 uppercase and 3 numerical characters. it means i can't use my normal password and hence i have to make a new one up i'd usually forget by the next time i wish to go on the site.

My old password was easy to crack, but I now use words that I can remember that don't relate to me, or words that aren't English, would be impossible to guess, heck one of my passwords is a name I made up using Japanese syallables, something highly unlikely to guess.

Characters, well usually 6-8 for me.

My regular is about nine, mixed case alphanumeric, the one I use for important stuff, where security matters, is about 19 characters mixed case, alpha numeric with symbols ^^.. Overkill? I think so.

One of mine is 13 characters and I completely made up the word... no one will ever guess it, except for maybe my cousin who knows me too well.

I have a friend that types in 23 letters for his password. But they are all lowercase and all on the homerow of the keyboard. Most of the letters are a's, s's, and d's

My password is "password".

Of course, telling people how long your password is bypasses the first challenge of a hacker. If my password is 8 characters, and the hacker uses a brute-force method starting at 5 characters, he has to make over 80 billion guesses before he even gets the correct number of letters/numbers in my password.

I have 8 characters in mine comprised of upper case lower case and numbers, my friend has a 6 character password that is actually those special symbols like Ü♀ \|æ something like that, I thought that was pretty clever...

Only if the password system supports those non-standard characters.

usually six characters and is a word which noone will ever acknoledge, but some sites want you to have at least a capital, a symbol and a number in the password, which is just downright annoying... but really, whos gonna want to hack anything i go on...

My teacher also wants the report to be more detailed to determine the useage of "secure characters" (capitol letters, numbers, symbols)
and where they are placed.

so can you just tell me the first 2 and last 3 characters of one of your passwords. for example my most common password begins with
"As" and ends with "d2!"

On a scale from one to ten one being very smart and ten being an absolute genius your none of the above

I love how if someone had a 6 letter password and they really did tell you the first 2 and the last 3 characters you could get into their account soooo easily.

Locked by another mod, presumably because you're asking for personal and sensitive data.
