...is probably th emost addictive MMO I've ever played. I purchased it around mid day yesterday and before i knew it, it was 5:05 am.

Its basically a racing-mmo, where you do challenges either by yourself or against online competitors on a highly detailed model Hawaii, collecting and trading cars as you progress. when you're not in the mood for racing, just get in a crew of players and drive around the island together. it's dam great.

As a said, the location is Hawaii, and the island has been very meticulously replicated from all corners of the island. All the scenery is there, the birds, planes, cruise ships, the thousands of other npc cars.

I recommend this game to EVERYONE:

I myself started with an Audi TT, and currently cruise around in a very nicely done up Jaguar XJ220... very nice

You mean the other way around. Most of the PS3 games that weren't coming to the 360, now are, including possibly FF 13

Yea, but the next one isn't a PS3 exclusive. TDU looks cool, I might get it for the PC. Is there a monthly charge, or just a one off?

Looks interesting El Goorf. What's the physics like on it? From the trailers it just looks like long straight roads. And how about the damage model etc? Is it at all realistic, or is it just an arcadey kinda drive about, smash into things type game?

kentaree, its just one off payment, no monthly charges. it's sort of fiddled like on guild wars, where your only connected to people in your race, etc.

Fallout, physics is pretty standard for a car racing game. it uses the havok engine. NPC cars around you take damage but your car can go 200mph into a tree and not take any damage. I wish we could at least see smashed windows etc, but nope, a bit of a let down in that department. Road signs are easily flattened though, so at least there is some degree of realism to the physics.

I must say though that I really like the AI of the NPC cars. when you're razzing up their behind on a [motor/high]way, they'll actually indicate, change lane and undertake you. how cool is that?? Of course, it only works if you give them time to see oyu coming...

I accept though that this game is the first of its kind hence it didn't have anything to examine and learn from first, and hence it will be buggy. Even so, I haven't actually found that many bugs in the game.

This time yesterday I was being annoyed by how difficult it would be to see a friend who claimed he was parked right infront of you, almost as if you were on separate servers. I think its because the server, to save bandwidth, only feeds your computer information about cars near you, but only periodically checks to see who's nearby. It turns out that simply clicking on your friend on the map sorta gives the server a jolt to say "oi, look, i've just spawned next to my friend, there for we're next to each other!" and the servers like "oh yeh, sure.. here you go" and hey presto, a second later your friend's visible. bug sorted

however, it's a fair bit harder when you have to actually find your friend in game first to add to your friends list.

i think the bigger annoyance is the fact it uses gamespy, it sorta makes things a little.. tedious, when you make a profile and sign up to the forums and stuff.

the only thing that actually affects my own gameplay, is my pc is right down at the minimum spec for the game, hence at high speeds, having to rapidly compute the scenery flashing by me causes the frame rate to drop loads and every now and then freeze momentarily, and then unfreeze with me on the side of the road, evidently crashed into a car or something, but unsure when why or how since it happened while it was frozen. This is why i prefer the country roads away from intense city scenery.

There was a car mmo before where you drive about blowing each other up - interstate style. Can't remember what it was called now, but it was similar in that you could customise your car, except with various weapons and armour rather than realistic mods. Need to see how that's come on actually, cos I remember it looking quite cool.

gah! i've just come across a major issue with the game; corrupted saves. its a bug with a lot of talk in the TDu forums, but i never found out about it until it was too late. I basically can no longer log into my profile and have had to make a new one.

there is a tool to help prevent this, but as i said, i found out too late.
