Hi all fellow game players! Im having a tough time trying to come up with a idea I would want to stay with for making a game. I have had so many ideas, but I never stick with one of them. I been making ideas for a game for the past 3 maybe 4 years, and I have finally decided to ask you all starting with my youngest brother. What is it about games you all like, what features, gameplay styles, single/multiplayer features, indoor or outdoor maps, sci-fi or realistic, such as Doom 3 or Old Ghost Recon. I have decided to take a step and do what players would want to see in a game that most devs dont do or refuse to listens to their fans of famous frachises, and Im sure some of you know what some games that points to. So please feel free to tell me want you wish to see, please write the games title and what features you like in it. I will include in the message a example.
I thank you all so very much for you wishes and wants and be very pleased to see some feedback about it!!!

EDIT: Also, if you all wish to, you can mention any plot ideas for story's.

EXAMPLE
Doom 3/Quake 4 FPS
A basic FPS with some very interesting point, as such when the crosshair points on a fellow marine, it shows their name and rank. For Doom 3 the crosshair also acts as a finger for computers and such. Also both Doom 3/Quake 4 has some SUPER good lighting effects, physics, shaders, and bump mapping. The storytelling for Quake 4 was super as it was almost entirely over the radio chatter. Doom 3 storytelling was dark and grim with few cutscenes but mostly in PDA's from the emails and video disc. The Doom 3 fan made Open Co-OP mod is super as it is playing everything out perfect between players, with sounds and monster, even the cutscenes plays properly!!!

I'm not gonna comment on games I've played and would rather have different as many people feel differently and you'll never get much of a sisync answer on the subject. Just too broad.

This said I can tell you what I didn't like about Doom 3.
Before anyone goes off on the whole HL2 vs D3 debate, my comments aren't about ragging on a game that I personally loved playing through. Just these are some aspects that I would've personally put more attention in to.

Right, well the game premise itself is quite good on the whole. This said it never feels like the story really revolves around the main character; in-fact you're always simply known as "marine". Even in the expansion pack you're dubbed as "the only survivor", rather than given a name. This really dehumanises the entire experience and point in the story. Something else on this strain is the simple fact that while the atmosphere is there, and if it had been developed a very good storyline - the reality of the game basically boiled down to run into a room and kill anything that moved. There was no consiquences from killing friendlies, not that there was many of those. To me that just defeats the entire point in having them there.
The scare tactics in it as well are 100% classic "put something in a fake room that opens when triggered", sure that has worked in the past and would've if the game's story wasn't trying to be as serious and realistic as possible but the game as a whole felt very conflicted between the old and the new. Both are honestly very seperate entities, and when you're playing something like this you want them to feel totally integrated with each other.

Also felt that there just wasn't any freedom, or enough puzzles. The game would've felt more intense and warrented the awesome engine overhaul and atmosphere if there was more freedom, and more well thinking going on. The worlds were used as "effect" or "scare" props rather than providing you with the feeling that some experiment has gone seriously tits up. After no time at all the entire game becomes fairly bland, senseless and in all predictable. This isn't because of lack of variety or weapons, although weapon-wise I would say.. they're introduced either way to early or in more cases far to late.

The PDA system was a good idea. They also showed off quite well that their UI/Scripting system was pretty awesome, but this just wasn't really explored much. I honestly felt much of the time that Doom 3 was a technology demo with a storyline. This is true of many of the newer games as well. (F.E.A.R. being a sodding great example of a technology demo out of control)

As far as I'd like to see, would be simple. More freedom, more depth, and Co-op as standard. Playing through a good storyline with friends is fun, but not in a stupid way like with Halo where there's two Master Chiefs' for some reason; but like Gears of War where the co-op was not just thought about but is done in a way that integrates the experience of how the game is played. Alright so there isn't as much variety as I'd like in Gears conserning co-op with only a few areas where you split up and the gameplay for the most part is very linear, but it was a start.

Why?

Why are we talking about last generation games?

If we should talk about "old" games, we should talk about Mario, or Ice Climbers!

Either Ice Climbers(NES/SNES/GBA), and Mario(NES/SNES/GBA/GC/N64 and so on...), or Gears Of War(X-Box 360), and Resistance(PS3)!

Don't get me wrong! I really like Q4, and D3!

Doom 3/Quake 4 was just used as examples... What game is perfect? None. All games have their great feautres, but also all games has their failures as Raven pointed out in detail for Doom 3. They were just the game I thought of to use for example as it is easy to see the mechanics in them stand out like a sore thumb. Im just trying to work with everything and take all the best ideas thought of and smash it into one great idea. As for generations, it dont mean a thing cause almost everything used in this generation has been done at some point or another in the past generations, as FPS itself is 20 or more years old. We are still playing FPS in this generation, right? Or should we be playing 22nd century matrix like virtual reality now? Im wanting to know what everyone wants in a game instead of what I want in it, as its the people playing a game that means more. If the players not happy, then who is?

Agreed, the co-op version of Doom3 on XBox is pretty good fun, but I felt like each time I got so far, it would have me go right back to the start of the level to find the exit, because it had changed the enemies. There's just too many holes in Doom3, like the enemies that spawn right behind you - that just kills any sense of realism. In Doom3 your not fighting hellspawn, your fighting nausea from turning round all the time.

Gears is a great example of co-op, because you can easily revive the other player and IMO that's far better than having the other player find a safe spot so you can spawn there. Like in Halo, although I loved Halo, there were some times when you just got sick of waiting around, especially the flood levels. In gears, usually when you team mate get's owned you have to head there anyway, because theres far less mucking around from the enemies, they work in little groups and you tend to work together a lot more because of it.

One thing that is sadly missing from modern FPS games though is the ability to set any sort of effective booby-trap. I used to play a lot of Duke Nukem 3D, and that had so many ways to rig a place as a trap, like sending an elevator full of pipe bombs or rigging a blind drop with laser trip mines. I think it would be really cool to do this sort of stuff again, be able to lock people behind doors or squash them remotely using machinery. It would be great to have a FPS without painted on doors - like if the door is locked, kick the bugger in! - be more inventive with the puzzles than finding key A to unlock key B, then go back to the start of the level and unlock door B, yawn.

Everyone, I have a idea that I hope you would might like. It took me some hard thinking, and Im also alone on working on this. My brother, you all if your in DBP threads, "Gen". Hes the dev for DarkIDE, he may help. Ill explain the details more vividly below, but I wont give all the details as I want surprises if you guys think its a good idea.

@Raven
I understand what you mean, I also want more freedom on maps. I think Ive come up with a idea that could give lots of freedom without losing the fun. Also about the "marine". I came up with a thought to fix this, but it may be impossible. Im still looking into it, but it may not make it into this version. By the way, could you be more descriptive of how much freedom you would want.

@Van B
I agree with you, why have locked doors? A normal person thinking would be kick it or pick it. I'll also explain whats instore for this. Booby traps would be great! Duke Nukem really played that out great! Its something I was great pleased with as they took, well as Crytek's Far Cry putting traps on trees. Though half the time it didnt work as planned. Im taking it into great consideration.

Question - Would you guys want more inventive puzzles, or more enhanced stragity? Im exploring this at the moment.

Now the details of whats been thought of at the moment. Note that this is the multiplayer section of it, as I have put most thought to it.

Game title at moment is "Green vs Gold"
I thought of the title from the two team colors, Green Team and Gold Team. What I think is more interesting(Im not sure if anyones thought of it) is that the teams also reflects the camo's. Im still trying to descide, but for now Im think Green Team will use either American or Russian Green BDU's. Gold Team will use Multicam BDU. There is a Blue Team, but its for Co-Op. Red Team will be used for Spectators. I'll write it more simple.

Green Team - green camo
Gold Team - multicam
Blue Team - "Enemy"
Red Team - Spectators or FFA games(undesided)

The two features mentioned above for doors, and traps.
Doors - I thought about making locked doors be picked and kicked. But theres results for each. Picking will allow quiet entry, maybe sneak a frag in or 2. Kicking the door will allow rapid assaults to the locations, but lock of noise could become an unsucessful breach alerting enemies to your location. These will be in both single and multiplayer.

Booby Traps - I have thought of remote charges to be included, set it somewhere for the unexpecting frag on people. This is what I have for it as Im exploring this possiblilty also.

I have planned for 10 maps, but there maybe more later. But I chose to do 10 to keep them completely different from each other. I dont like looking at the same thing in severals maps so I like 10 would be a good round number for it.

There will be 15 or so weapons... Including grenades and such.

Well... Its simple at the moment, but what you guys think.

@LD52 Thanks. I know its going to take time, lots of it to. Its just me and my brother working on it, but we want to make it good. I guess the hard part will be the time, as theres lots of ideas rolling in my head, and my brother big brain to program. But I hope to make it a great achievment for us. This idea I mentioned was one i had 3 years ago and more or less shelved it. But after reading Ravens and Van B comments, I pulled my notebook out where I write ideas, and looking at them where I could try to improve any of them. Green vs Gold was one of my first and looking at it with there thoughts helped encourage for it to be better. But I havnt looked at the other ideas yet and see what there was as its a pretty full notebook of brainstorming.

Right now Im currently looking at other software to help speed time on the maps. I really want to increase the stragity as well for both single and multiplayer so its not just run and gun through the whole thing as thats will be possible. But to make more interesting options avalible as Im looking at stealth for a key factor in it.

I hope everyone would be pleased with the finished product, but when it is complete, all feedback to it is welcome to help improve for the next one after Green vs Gold. Id rather not carry on any of the failing features that this might have.
