So I finnaly get the price quote(Dad's company discount) for the computer I was looking at at dell, and it is way over my price range, and way lower then my expectations. Becuase of this, I decided to build a custom PC Game Rig. However, I have absolutely no, and I do mean NO, expirience with putting pcs together. So, do you have any recources for an absolute n00b how to guide on putting a pc together? Thanks,

SageTech

Get someone who has built a computer before to help you or atleast supervise you so you don't connect two wrong parts or something and break a part.

Also check your local book store they might have a book on how to build a custom computer or some tips.

Really, it's very easy and you can't easily go wrong short of breaking or in some way ruining a part. Just make sure the form factor on the case you choose and the motherboard are the same. Make sure the case has lots of room for you to be comfortable while working and later expansion. Go with PCI-E (if they even make AGP stuff anymore) and make sure you get a compatible video card. Also make sure the processor you order is the same socket as the motherboard. If you will be using SATA drives, make sure the motherboard you order will have that. Always buy one RAM type and size and also check for compatibility between RAM and your motherboard as some boards can be very very picky.

Really, that's all you need to know about purchasing everything. Installation is very easy and if you get stuck, read the manuals. I built my computer with no previous building experience and it was simple not counting the case modifications I had to make. I had an old Gateway case, some cords for the power button/leds were a little too specially made for their mobo, also I had to cut a hole for a new back panel. If you buy all new stuff, you should have no problem.

Good luck

The problem is, I look at all the descriptions of the parts Im looking to purchase and I have *no* idea what is being said! Unfortunately, I have not a clue where to start. Im not sure if a certain proccesor will work with a certain motherboard, or if a graphics card will work with it, etc. But, perhaps someone here who has done this sort of thing before can help? What Im looking to build is something that will run dx10. I have a budget of about $800, but can go a little higher then that. Any suggestions?

Also, Ill be buying of newegg.

I built my computer, it ended up being about $700, but with a crappy cpu...

Usually, the website selling the motherboard will say what cpu/ram/video cards it supports, and it comes with instructions.

Make sure your case comes with instructions too, mine didn't and it took a good half hour just to get the damn thing open.

This is not a sig.

Start a parts list

case
powersupply
fans
motherboards
cpu
ram

1 floppy
1 dvd burner
2 hard drives (raid 1)

video card
sound card
network card if not onboard

keep that list and refine it, refine it, refine it.
put a brand and price next to your parts list

read sites like tomshardware and wiki things that dont make sense

pricewatch.com in america is supposed to be very cheap

simple, buy "building pc's for dummies" then you'll never be unable to build a pc again! as for the parts... the DX10 card is around $500 or something isn't it?

The hardest part is always putting the motherboard in.

You can avoid this step if you buy one of those cube case things.

Then just drop in the CPU, Memory, GPU, HDD of your choosing is simple.

Alright, I just did some pricing and reading of reviews, and here is what I plan on buying:

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811147001

Video Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16814130082

Memory:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820227089

Proccesor:
http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103747

MotherBoard:
http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813138027

And of course, Ill be salvaging the Hard drive, CD drive, and floppy drive from my current computer. Does everything there look decent enough for a gaming computer?
