Hey all, I've acheived the impossible (or at least the very very difficult) and managed to get a dedicated Call of Duty server running on a local machine. It was public, and for a few days it was pretty active and saw probably 50 or more players from around the world.

Only problem is that I had to reboot my machine and now on reboot the server only shows up on local machines and not the internet

The only thing I can think of is when I rebooted the router assigned my computer a new IP address. I've gone through and allowed the appropriate ports for the new IP on my router. I've even tried enabling DMZ (which opens all ports) so I know its not the router.

I dont use Windows Firewall so I know its not that. It's turned off.

I'm using Norton's Internet Security and thought it might be that, but i didnt need to configure anything in the first place, and the server still ran fine.

And I checked my LAN connection and dont see anywhere in there a way to open ports or anything, but that shouldnt matter since I didnt have to do anything there the first time.

The one thing I noticed was my computer now has an "Internet Gateway" icon in the "Network Connections" folder. I'm not sure if it was there before but I dont think it was. I checked that and cant find anything for configuring ports.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!! Thanks all in advance!!!

This is wierd... I tried both DMZ and disabling Windows Firewall both at the same time. But now, when I try to login from the local machine(the same one running the server) it says "PB GUID AUTH UNKN" and of course boots me from the server. This makes me think that the 20500 port (CDKEY verification) is for some reason not open. I've tried everything I can think of!

The router is opening all ports, the Firewall is off so it doesnt close any ports... I looked inside my LAN settings folder for any port config options and i found nothing... any one have ANY idea?? this is REALLLLLY bothering me.

TIA

Is your local IP set manualy or through DHCP allocation?

Whenever you run a sever it needs to be set manually to stop it changing IP.....

next

Do you have a fixed external IP from your ISP?

If not, you can use something like no-ip.com to re-alocate your domain name to you every changing dynamic IP address.
