Has anyone else seen the movie "Children of Men?" It stars Clive Owen and Michael Caine. In the future, the entire world has been wiped out by wars and famines and everything else, but Britain has managed to survive, but now, no one can have children, and when it happens, it's considered to be a miracle. I almost didn't watch this movie because it looked sort of hoaky on the box, but then I figured Michael Caine is one of the greatest actors of all time, so how bad can it be?

I personally thought this movie was brilliant. It had what I think is a realistic outlook of the not-so-distant future... no flying cars or any of that (maybe not the end of the world bits, but otherwise, it was realistic). Parts felt like Saving Private Ryan, and the cinematography was brilliant imo. And while it was a bit hard to follow, it kept me captivated throughout the whole film. Have any of you seen it? What did you think of it if you did?

Hmmm. Rings a bell. Out of interest that sounds like a very similar story to a very new film. Can't remember the name though. Someone come up with it as I wanted to watch that movie then totally forgot about it.

Cheers

I really enjoyed this movie too, Matt. One of my faves of last year.

I thought it was okay. Not the best but certainly not the worst film I've ever seen.

Yeh I've seen it. Great film. I'm loving the ending as well, there are so many ways they could have taken it and I think they got it just right.

There are some parts that could have been taken out and it does get confusing at points but overall a top watch.

This might sound like I'm just picking faults for the sake of it but the DVD case cover leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion.

It was a sad movie though. My favorite part was when the 'pull my finger' guy was getting killed. All he would sya was, "Pull my finger". BAM!

Sorry folks... an oppertunity to sig test...

I saw it the other day, I agree it is a brilliant movie, very moving, I was sort of hoping what would have happened after the end bit, but overall it was pretty awesome. I like the 'screwed up fascist future' movies, always a good plot and interesting to watch.

Yeah, great movie. Some of the best, if not the best, action sequences I've ever seen (from a technical perspective). The single take sequences with all that was going on were impressive. Only thing I didn't like was the ending - way too abrupt and therefore a bit lame.

I still don't understand exactly what was causing the infertility though, I'm going to watch it again. Did they actually tell you what it was, or do they leave it up to your imagination? Maybe I missed a part or something, my girlfriend has a tendency to talk a lot during movies lol.

The "pull my finger" was definitely sad, almost everyone who helps her ends up dead. If that's what the future will end up being like, just kill me now . It really makes you think though, I finished that movie wondering if it could actually happen someday, and usually movies like that leave me wanting chips, lol.

Funny note about the awesome soundtrack. About ten years ago, I went on a kayaking trip with my best friend and his dad. We stayed in a hotel, and I heard a song coming out of one of the hotel rooms. I wanted to knock on the door and ask what it was, but my friend's dad wouldn't let me. The next morning the room's occupant checked out before us, so for ten years I've been looking for that song. Cut to last night. In the scene where he's being driven to meet his brother, the artist guy... that song, "Court of the Crimson King," was playing in the background. How cool is that?

I think the whole cause was up to your imagination, different people thought it was different things, pollution, chemicals or even God punishing us, nobody in the movie actually knew, therefore nor does the audience, I think it has an effect that way.

They ellude to a few consistent themes though. The prescription drugs (the sleeping aid Michael Caine keeps taking and they show it a lot in commercials), the pollution, the nuclear war... I'm guessing it's probably one of those. But then it can be anything, hehe.

This is based off a book, though I haven't read it. Story-wise, it's not really important what the cause is, which I think is another reason not telling us was so good.

I thought it was a great movie... gave me a very Half Life 2 feel, which is the feeling I play Half Life 2 for.

A great style too, though really great because it was done so well.

Matt - Just did a search for that song--- it's great! Sounds like something I'd have stuck in my head for 10 years.

A similar thing happened to me with Myles & Lenny's hit Can You Give It All To Me. I had it stuck in my head for about 10 years until I finally spent a few hours doing a lyric search on Google. I posted about that here actually hehe.

Its a brilliant film, the single shot action scenes were breath takingly intense, but the most technically amazing scene would have to be where the baby's born. I presume the actress didn't actually give birth for the film, which leaves it to be some of the best CG ever created.

As for the ending; yeah i was a little put out when i first watched it, but afterwards i realised that it was the only way it could have ended, any other ending would have been utterly criminal.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

I was a little put out too, but yet now that I think of it, I agree with you, another ending would have been criminal. It probably got us, because the ending of a movie (Or a series of movies) is generally conclusive and provides answers to certain questions.

I love it, it has a really "full" sound. I wish I could afford to pay the licensing fees so I could use it in a game, and if I ever get tons of money, it'll definitely find its way into one, hehe.

I agree whole-heartedly, there really wasn't any other way to end the movie and I think it does a great job at explaining the sacrifice and importance of their cause. But we should probably stop talking about it because some people probably still want to see it, lol.

I've been wondering how they did that for a while now. It was gross, with all the afterbirth and whatnot (you can tell I'm not a parent lol), but I can't think of a single film with CG that incredible, so realistic. My girlfriend thinks they may have filmed a real birth, and that should say something about the quality (I'm pretty sure it's CG though).

I can't remember the birth scene exactly, but I remember it did look very impressive. Possibly animatronics, as they're very advanced these days too.
