I'm trying to share a cd-rom drive over a network. I have two computers. One is running xp and the other 98se. The cdrom is located in the xp computer. I'd like to be able to set win98 to recognize the shared drive as a cdrom drive. Is this possible?

Though I wouldn't recommend it as it will slow down the streaming of the song. CD->Computer->Network->computer
It'd be faster if it were on the computer some where. Also I'd assume the CD drive is slow as it is making this idea even worse.

Just a recommendation though.

I have tried sharing the drive like a folder and it works. The problem is that I'm trying to run a game on my win98 using the cd that is in my xp. The game doesn't detect the shared cd rom drive though.

Also the cdrom in my xp is pretty fast. 48x speed. So that shouldn't be a problem.

why not just spend $15 and go buy a cheap cdrom? I don't think speed would be much of an issue, the network should be able to handle what the IDE ribbon can do.

The problem is that you just can't do that It's probably built into the copyright protection.

You'll have to buy a cd drive if you cannot find any other means.
