Is the new chap better than Christopher Eccleston? Basically I'm asking is should a Doctor Who newbie buy season 1 or season 2 in DVD?

I have vague plans for World Domination

He's different.

Christopher Eccleston was a good doctor in his own right (imho). His character was totally different though. When he got excited there was a child-like attitude to him. The new doctor is much more "firey".

The new assistant is growing on me - I wasn't sure about her in the first ep, but she is actually not a bad actress.

yes, the new series is better than the last ones, did anyone ever watch the really old ones? they were a laugh! it's great, monsters made from paper and bubble wrap and sets that cost about £10 to make. they did well for the budget they had back then though.

Dont forget that its only since the return of Dr Who, that the BBC started science fiction seriously. I suspect that there would have been a limited amount of money to do much, not only because TV was new (at least up until the late 60's), but it was competing against other programs which were deemed to be more 'significant'.

As for which is is better - each regeneration produces a total new character. Old Chris was good (his version was someone who didn't take fools lightly), and still haunted by the Time War, while David's one is someone with a strong sense of justice.

According to the Dr Who legend a time lord can only re-incarnate 12 times (making 13 Doctors in total).

They have already been through 10.

I wonder how long it will take them to run out

"Hardman" Eccleston left, reportedly, because it was too much like hard work

I like Tenant better than Eccleston. I would almost say he's the best Doctor... But then again, I'm hard pressed to like him better than Tom Baker

british television series that dates back to when i was a kid about a time traveling doctor / scientist.
To keep the series alive, the doctor would change forms every now and then, allowing new actors to take up the role. I was a tom baker fan, then it faded for me.

There are rumours he didn't get on that well with Russell T. Davis, and he didn't like Cardiff that much...

Quote: "british television series that dates back to when i was a kid about a time traveling doctor / scientist."

He may or may not be a doctor and/or scientist. He's generally regarded has having been a member of the upper-classes of Galifrey (they were generally the only ones who would have access to time-travel technology).

And, like The Master (before he met a sticky end), was regarded as a rogue.

Personally I prefer Tennant, he seems to fit the role of the Doctor more in my opinion.

That was when he had some regenerations left, and until the Daleks decided to relieve him of his last one.

Mind you, Russell (we're on first name terms now ) did say the Dalek's wouldn't be back...

... and its been an open secret for a while that this third season sees the return of the Master. If you read this week's Radio Times, you would have seen a very unsubtle hint about this. I've read that apparently he is found trying to free Gallifrey and the Time Lords, who allegedly were destroyed in the Time War. At first the character appears to be a good guy but the Doctor only finds out who the character really is when he sees him regenerate ...

Incidentally, the Master was last seen in the Paul McGann TV movie being eaten by the Doctor's TARDIS's link to the Eye of Harmony. It'll be interesting to see how he managed to escape from a Black Hole.

I say bring back Omega, the Rani, Drax, the Time Meddler and, what the hell, Rassilon as well. Lets have all the rogue Time Lords into the picture for a good old fashioned knees up.

The longest running, most successful and most influential sci-fi tv series ever made. If you haven't heard of it, you must have been living under a rock. Go off and do a wikipedia search.

Having only seen the newer series of the show I can't wait to see what the Master will be like. Seeing as he is a main villian he is probably making an appearance in the final two episodes.

do you think they'll have another showdown like in the last series when the cybermen and the daleks both appeared and fought it out between themselves?

I dont read the Radio Times - aside from being over-priced, its extremely boring to read, so I didn't know The Master would be back...

I do know the Daleks are though

Quote: "It'll be interesting to see how he managed to escape from a Black Hole."

Probably when Rose decided to start trashing the TARDIS in the last few episodes of the first series, and then went all mysterious... I'm being vague here as I dont want to spoil the enjoyment for those people who, unfortunately, haven't been able to see the greatest British sci-fi program since, well, forever...

That'll be a bit harder - the TARDIS is only designed for time travel, and not dimension jumping - for that, the good doctor would have to contact a Quinn Mallory and get hold of his sliding system. Or, alternatively, find an Ace Rimmer...

The Doctor said they used to be able to jump universes, so you never know, it might just talk loads of power.

Rose could only come back if Billie Piper wanted the role of companion again

edit: Which probably won't happen, I like the new companion anyway.

they sealed the rift which was the only thing which allowed them to jump dimensions, so rose wont be back

i saw the one on today, yea druggish at the start, wish there were a bit more shouting from the doctor, and I hope the secret isnt to do with the master. cuz otherwise there may be no more doctor who when all forms are used up... unless he takes over another using his power source which is sometimes called the "eye of harmony" to take over the master

The latest episode was great - although why you would want to spend 6 years in a traffic jam without trying to jump the queue is beyond me (unless the steering system locks up).

No, it happened because Rose saved her father, altering the future.

Hence, if the doctor when back to stop the Time War or save Gallifrey, something similar would occur.

It would be interesting to see how the Daleks managed to get past the planets defences (Quantum force field and Transduction barrier).

Who wants to explain to me why there wasn't a Doctor Who this weekend? I sat around all day waiting, and it never came. Something about euromabob I think? Whats that?! I need answers for my confusion!

It was Eurovision related. Dr Who was postponed for a week so we could listen to the delightful voices of eurpoean song, watch many bouts of political voting between countries ending in "via" and then watching our own country come next to last (again!)

Thats SO much better than Dr Who!

Lame.

I remember what that is now. It spawned the Lordi craze. Oh how I despise Lordi.

So it'll be back this week, right?
