I for whatever reason can not access my site. Other people can access it. And I can access other sites; crap! I can even access my site on a different computer using the same network connection!!

I have tried flushing the dns, obtaining a new net ip, everything! I can access the site if I use the ip, but not with the domain!

anyone any ideas?

how about you give us the ip and or the website name so we can traceroute it.

the google add being blank would lead me to suggest its being blocked by your adblock browser software perhaps.

are you referring to the site in your web link?

http://www.galekus.com/news.php

you might have to wait a little while for a subdomain to get parsed by the dns machines.

so ur saying that the computer your using to try to access your site is in no way connected to the server except that they both belong to you?

Check your antivirus settings or ur windows firewall or something... doesnt make much sense... yeah, whats the url?

by not resolving the domain, I mean that it says "hostname could not be found" in ping or firefox, stupid IE just says "site cannot be displayed"

Check your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file to make sure your site isn't pointing somewhere else. That's all I can think of.

If you tried to access it before it had propagated properly then its possible your ISP will have looked it up, found it didn't exists and cached it. Now whenever you ask your ISP (or router?) for the domain name to be resolved they're simply serving the cached result of "non existant".

Try fully rebooting your machine + your router/modem.

If that fails you might need to wait up to 48 hours for your ISP to look it up again (depending on the TTL or the domain).

Yeah it works fine from here, like Jeku said it sounds like there is something in your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file.

You may have edited this if you were hosting a temporary web server on your internal LAN.

I'm not 100% sure - but surely if it was in the hosts file then it WOULD resolve... but just wouldn't be able to connect. His error says it cant resolve implying its trying to look it up somewhere (usually router or ISP) and that server is unable to find it, either in its own cache or by asking another domain name server higher up the chain.

Typicaly you edit the hosts file to redirect an external name like www.galekus.com to an internal ip address like 192.168.1.1, before the DNS got it.

You might do this while you are editing the site so you can test it internaly.

If you didn't you could only test your site using http://192.168.1.1 because if you typed the host name http://www.galekus.com it would go to the DNS to resolve the name and out to the internet instead of a machine on your LAN.

Maybe it doesn't resolve because he has taken his internal test server down but the host file redirect is still in place.

I dont recall seeing him say he has an internal test server... In fact, he explicitly said:

Maybe he did once and then decided better of it or maybe some piece of software he used to generate his web pages did it for him. Who knows, but he needs to go in that file to rule it out as the source of the problem. If anything looks like below it needs removing...

jouleos.galekus.com 127.0.0.1
jouleos.galekus.com 192.168.x.x
jouleos.galekus.com 10.1.x.x

having worked in IT support you see all sorts of crazy things like..

Confused me, "are you sure your password isn't working because Caps Lock is on?"

Crazy mad user, "yes i'm bloody well sure! I pressed it twice just to make sure it was off!"

Very true - I've been in that business before. Some people shouldn't be allowed to use PC's...

Find the ip/hostname of your ISPs DNS servers, and then ask that server what it knows about your domain...

If you've got linux/unix, then this is quite easy.

Where 1.2.3.4 is your ISP's name server, and www.unresponsive-domain.com is the domain which will not resolve.

yea...dead topic now really, but I have got this little temporary down time for a long time, like almost a year.

I don't have anything in my hosts file(I use to use it on my old PC to get around that downtime though)

If I override the IP(ignore domain resolution), then it works..
