And money's getting really tight.

And the prices of consumable NECESSITIES are going up.

(seen Monday on urbansurvival.com)

Uncle, who has been farming for 75 years, was telling me that a 50 lb. bag of seed corn is currently selling for $100 to $140.

This is a massive increase.

Last year, I bought a 50 lb. bag for $5.

Not only has the price skyrocketed, Uncle said that he was at the feed store on Wednesday and the owner told him "If you don't already have it ordered, you won't get any corn seed this year."

Also, Uncle tells me, fertilizer has jumped to $350 to $400 per ton.

Just thought I would pass along information

Do these current increases include computer gear?

Probably not for the current inventories.

But if the cost of producing/manufacturing new things is increasing, then what will happen to new computer prices?

We will soon see.
But for now they continue to remain low.

If you can live with last year's latest and greatest then it would be hard to beat this deal.

Anyone who sees a better (not on sale, no rebate) system for the money, please post it.

It is the exact same system that I just bought,
except the OS is Windows Vista® Home Premium,
and it's priced $100 less. (mail order $28.10 shipping, no sales tax)

If you want the latest and greatest,
get a Intel® Core™ 2 Processor and look at spending several hundred $ more.

I'm unique, just like everybody else.

That system would be around £399 in the UK, or just under $800.

Intel might have great CPUs but their graphics chipsets/cards suck.

Intels graphics card is realy a reworked Video Logic Kyro PowerVR its never realy had good press due to special fx issues. It always seems to be 1 or 2 steps behind nVidia and ATI

I assembled a few computer systems back in the last century, and had no desire to do that again.

Last night while loading up my new system, I was researching the prices of the components needed to recreate the same system.

It would have cost $584 to purchase the components.
I saved $34, and a whole lot of time, sweat and frustration (I hade motherboard preparation).

In the past eight hours that $549.99 (regular price) B601 system has had a 9% price increase.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I believe that this is the first time in history that this has happened.

I'm unique, just like everybody else.

Well consumables are going up because, well more than half of all bees in the US and Britain have died and no one knows why.

Here in ND, we spray for mosquitos like crazy, but it kills off all the nice bugs, butterflies and such. Just walking through the park here it's kind of eery not seeing any bugs by the flowers.. I have no idea if that's the cause of the bee problems tho

In fact, I have no idea if what you're saying is even true, and i highly doubt it'll cause any price increases in anything whatsoever (except hunny, er, honey)

Well you know, bees pollinate our crops and plants, so without bees, our crops and plants die, and it is true lol.

Those increases would have been unprecedented.
They didn't stick.
Both system prices have moved back to $550.

It may have something to do with this.
Dell gives customers what they want: Windows XP, not Vista.
