Perhaps some ex-Amiga users will remember a demo called "Desert Dreams" by Kefrens (early 90's pre AGA). While I hadn't seen it for possibly a decade (til yesterday) myself. It's one of those demos that struck a nerve with punters. Upon looking at it again, it certainly set some the benchmarks of the day.

Anyway, I mention it because a remake was recently released. Not for the PC mind you, but the C64 of all things. It's surprisingly faithful to the Amiga version for the most part also.

Better music than the Atari 1040's Impossimole? This I have to see!

Nothing beats an Atari ST's music! It's all just so good. I remember as a kid watching pop bands use them on top of the pops. I beleive some artists still do.

Comparing the output of the STs MIDI ports to the actual built-in sound-chip of the Amiga isn't exactly a fair comparison I love the ST more than anyone, but the Desert Dreams music is just SO cool, I still listen to it today.

For those without emulation setups, here's some movies.

C64 Version
Part #1
Part #2

Amiga Version
Full

Some parts are clearly a better comparison than others, but when you consider the type of graphics chip & the 8bit cpu the c64 has, it's a fantastic effort !

If only they had those skills back in the 80's, damn impressive what some people are still doing on the 8-bits.

I'll have to hear the Amiga music, I wish they'd find a way to view Amiga stuff online though, I have a C64 emu already, but I really dislike WinUAE.

EDIT: Ahh, the amiga version is a youtube vid, cool .

Van,

Yeah there's some pretty impressive stuff. Although i guess that depends on how well know the limitations of these boxes. We take so much for granted today, such effects are trivial by todays standards, but doing them of 68k Amiga certainly isn't easy, but doing it on an 8bit 6510 isn't what i'd call fun. Oh how times have changed

Anyway, you're prolly already aware but there's another emulator called Fellow. Not sure if it's still being developed, but it was little more straight forward and geared towards OCS (it prolly support ECS also) A500 level systems. Anyway, most pre AGA demo stuff should run.
