I made this AK-101 for my project. It took me about 2 days to model and texture it. I spent the whole evening trying to export and animate it for FPSC. I am using Gamespace, and animating is a pain. Sometimes when I export Direct X, it shows up all weird in FPSC. The video shows the result of all my effort. Tommorow I will "clean" up the animation a bit so the fingers don't go through the gun etc. The video is slow only because of FRAPS and so the sound is out of sync and very bad quality (FRAPS produced a 90mb video which I then put through Windows movie maker and it came out 2mb so that's good IMO) the gun sound is from model pack 5's AUG, Anyway enough of me blabbing here is the video..

Thanks DOMRAY, old chap. I've been doing 3d modelling for 3 years now but have only recently got into animation.

looks good, i only wish i could model hands at all. id churn up a pack full of as many guns as i could find that exist if only i could model hands. and yeah, fix the anims and it would be brilliant. also if you syncd the bullet sound to the muzzleflash rate it would probably look better as well.

best of the rest!

That's only the video. Stupid FRAPS makes the frame rate go down to 16 . I will be fixing the anims today and will post a work in progress video. Also I animated the left arm taking the magazine out but it wouldn't show up in FPSC so I animated the right arm doing that action instead. Screwed Over, I wish you the best of luck trying to make hands for your guns It took me a lot of practise to make my hands look right. Start by modelling the arm because that is the easiest in my opinion, just a cylinder disorted a bit. Also, now I find modelling Half-gloves the easiest. Start with another cylinder for the thumb and extrude and disort down into a palm shape then add a thumb tip and 'mould' a bit more around the knuckles. For the fingers, start with a cylinder and make it narrower at the top. Extrude for each segment of the finger and wrap it around your gun, then it was just a case of welding the parts together and arranging it on your gun. I haven't tried giving my hand a full skeleton at the moment because that will just be too hard. Hope this helps....

thanks for telling me how to model hands, now i just need to learn how to model the rest of a character, but i'll get there in the end i guess.

its a shame fraps drops the fps though, and i hope your project goes well.

best of the rest!

But it can only save objects of 650 polys or less.

Looks good oposing force; I can't seem to animate anything in gamspace apart from creatures and humans. How did ya do it? 1d slide joints?

Well done
Tyrano

tyrano man, well I don't know if what I do is a good method. I set up my scene and I move the objects around accordingly. I set up keyframes and that in the scene editor so they match my gunspec file and then I go on save scene -> direct X.

not bad opposing force, could be a little bit faster arm movement though.

Thats a fine effort O.F. I've never worked with gamespace myself but all animation is hard to do man...And if your app isn't really user friendly....All the harder.

Looking good, OpFor- I really like the sleeves.

Try FRAPSing at 1/2 size to improve recording framerate. In not crucial, you can also record without sound for a speed bost. Make sure you have virus scanning disabled too.

Oh by the way, it may be worth looking up a bone animating tutorial. I think you animate the same way as I do, and in the end the hands look rather stiff. When i make another weapon, I will be bone animating it hopefully!

Ok, got the new video (no sound) I did what Errant said and now the frame rate is close to how it should be I finally managed to animate the left arm taking the magazine out. You may of noticed on the video that some of the texture is messed up on the glove, i'll be fixing that. The animation still needs that little extra tweeking but it's getting better. Here it is...
