I recently picked up a 32" TV from Costco and it is a really nice TV.

The only problem I am encountering is I cannot seem to be able to get an external set of speakers hooked up to it.

The TV has one set of output RCA jacks and an SPDIF jack. My speakers are a set of PC speakers composed like so:
1> Subwoofer plugs into device such as computer or headphone jack.
2> Two speakers are hardwired to the subwoofer
3> Subwoofer is connected to its own power source

Now previously I was just hooking the speaker set to the headphone jack on my old TV, but there is none on my new TV.

When I plug the speaker into any of the output plugs I still only receive sound from the TV speakers.

I thought maybe I needed to convert the White/Red ports (left/right) into a single jack so I bought a Y-Adapter. Still only receiving sound from the TV and not my speakers.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel as though its a user error and not a TV error, but I could be wrong.

Please let me know.

Thanks

You could try the menu, go into it and find sound, turn off TV speakers, and turn on external, that may help.

You system sounds pants, and if it don't set on fire and burn your house down first I'd raid the piggy bank and buy a proper surround sound set.

For sure your current make shift setup won't decode the suround sound signals, which is the whole point of having seperate speakers

try bulding a set of gainclones(google sertch). then buy or buld some good specers and you have a sistem that would cost hundreds of pounds to buy redy made. decent specers are the expensive bit the components for the amps cost about £50.

There is no menu option to switch between external and internal sound.

I have no idea what you just said

Sounds too complicated

Are the speakers for TV's different from those of PC's? I thought that speakers are all the same. Is an RCA cable so much different then a headphone plug?

Maybe I just cannot use a headphone line? Maybe I must use an RCA cable?

If anyone has any further idea's that don't include homebrew devices let me know.

Thanks

You could probably go buy a converter from radio shack or best buy, but I suggest just buying a real sound system, if even a cheep one.

Yes, rca audio plugs aren't the same as pc speaker plugs. I would suggest doing as osiris said and buying an rca to pc speaker converter. Once you do that, make sure external sound is enabled somewhere in the tv's menu.

Who needs a signature?
