Hi All,

Just a note to all who maybe think of changing their motherboard either under warranty or off the shelf.

Make sure that you get the guy replacing the board to do the mods, what ever they are or else you will end up with a machine that works until you decide to reload windows from scratch, because the oem rescue disk will not work until it is done.

If you buy a motherboard your self make sure you get the information need to make work or you could be stuck later on.

cheers hope this of some help to some.

With OEM you can only replace a certain number of hardware parts before the OEM license becomes invalid. Unfortunately, when replacing the motherboard you tend to replace the CPU and graphics card too, plus the Mobo tends to have onboard network (sometimes twice), sound and many more.

That's what I have been finding out, had my motherboard replace on warranty, but they forgot to reset or do something which the guy is coming back to do soon.(cpu and other bits stayed the same).

So I'd thought just put a post on here to warn others if they are going to have this done make sure the guy doing the repair does everything needed.

Oh well THAT sucks as technically you haven't changed spec. If you do replace all your hardware due to a failure rather than upgrade, you can sometimes get Microsoft to reset the OEM license for the new hardware... but you'd have to find a generous employee

At least I got xp install on it using the upgrade disk and the oem disk together. however lost the use of all the other stuff fitted to the machine until I tracked down all the software drivers for them.
