Are you talking about as a customer or as a merchant? I was thinking about using it as a payment option in a project im working on...

If it's anything as good as adsense I'll prolly use it

I'd like to use it as I already use Google for everything else, but it doesn't accept my card type.

@Ben,
More than one person posted that google link on april 1st.

What kind of card you have Josh?

I like how they already have integrations for osCommerce and Zen cart.

A British debit card, they only seem to accept credit cards. Same with Picasa web albums, if my card worked I would have paid for some online storage for photos with them...

Problem is, that's not an actual standard card. For example, my debit card works just like a credit card and is issued by a standard card issuer, and is linked right to my bank account.

Does your debit card work at businesses or only atms? I haven't quite figured that stuff out. From what I understand canada also issues cards not usable through standard payment gateways..

I believe some smaller type banks in the US do as well..

Yea, my debit card works the same as a Visa. Got a capital one earlier this year. "What's in your wallet?"!

My card is a visa electron, its just like a credit card, but you don't get an overdraft, which is good for me, because I'd be in debt

I can use my debit card pretty much everywhere, it works like a credit card. (Most of the time lol) For example PayPal and the British Lottery accept it, just to name two.

A debit card is better described as an electronic cheque.

You have to have funds in your account, funds are taken out instantly, and in most cases there is no lending protection against fraud because it is not a loan.

On the internet I'd only ever use a real credit card for the last reason!

I find it impossible to business with PayPal because half the time the order in unconfirmed and you don't know if it's a fraudster or crappy American card checking not supporting smaller UK cards :/

Are debit cards new to some people? I've had mine for over 10 years, and when I went to Macy's in the states they'd never heard of it. And they actually accept cheques, which is bizarre to me too (nobody accepts them here anymore). Get with the times, people!

I hate waiting in line for people with checks >.<

But uh, sounds like you had a newb at the checkout lane.. certainly they would accept any credit/debit card..

It's been the same in the UK for a while, although I've got a feeling they do still accept them in some places. I hardly ever carry cash anymore though, I just pay for everything on my card. Makes life so much easier!

I use my credit card for almost everything I buy, even a coffee, because there's no charge as long as I pay the balance by the end of the month. Most banks charge debit card fees, but not credit card fees.

my parents use a debit card...

and if a 50+ year old is using something you haven't even heard about that makes you... something...

Thankfully I've never been charged anything for using my debit card, some ATMs will charge but most of the major banks in the UK don't.

What a bitch! Charging you to spend your money?! That's terrible. I've never heard of ANYONE being charged for using a debit card over here. In fact it puzzles me why anyone would want to use a credit card over here. Putting yourself in debt at 16% interest for the sake of not bothering to save for things seems mad. It's the same for all these loan companies on the TV "We'll consider everyone, even those with poor credit histories" whilst the small print at the bottom of the screen advertises a 20% typical interest rate.

Don't spend money that you haven't got, and don't get into debt. Important lesson.

Actualy Debit cards are prefered because a shop only gets charged like 15p for using them.

The credit card companies are trying to kill it off (probably why it's only in the UK) because they prefer to take 2% from the shop owner for every transaction!! AMEX is worse they give 1% back to card users but the charge the shop 3% which is why a lot of shops in the UK won't take AMEX

Think about it..

you buy a laptop for £1000, credit card company makes £20

if you use a Debit card instead they only make 15p !!!

BIG MONEY SAVING TIP! If you go to an independent retailer you can get a 2% discount on anything you buy because of this. Ask to speak to the manager and as for a discount to buy on Cash or Debit card it realy works!

Um, no. Not if you pay off the balance by the end of the month. Then there's absolutely no charge-- but besides my credit card is only at 9% which is not so-so bad
