Couple questions for the community:

1) Do you RP?
(no need to answer the rest of the questions if you answer no to question 1...duh)
2)With a group of people, or by yourself?
3)What type of character do you like to portray?
4)What system do you use if any?
5)Are you currently involved in any games right now?

Ok, thats all i need to know. It's something I'm doing research on before i go ahead with a side project of mine.

Here's a question for you:

- What is RP?

That is all.

I used to run a RPG club for about 5 years when I was 14 to 19.
Mums restaurant was the best place to manage 3 main groups.

AD&D 1 / 2
MERPS
MISC - Mostly StormBringer but also paranoia / gamma world / toon / board games.

Each person paid $5 for the day (sundays) and got a hotdog plus all the postmix their stomachs could handle.

I had to pay $20 or 4 people for the rental of the space.
If there was not enough players that weekend, it was board games for free without the hotdogs etc..

I got the club up to 26 regulars and would funnel the profits into buying material for the games as well as support my computer game habit back then.

I used to be a DM for AD&D 2 as well as Stormbringer, another couple of guys would help with DMing the other games.

power gaming was a real problem in the AD&D group.
I used to play a halfing bard monk jonguleer and a quaggoth barbarian also a high level darkelf mage.

I play several rpg games, most notably Call of Cthulhu.
Lol, I also play an old Ghostbusters rpg, based on six-sided dice.
I usually play with 3 or 4 people.
For the most part, Call of Cathulhu is a pretty dark game, so I tend to play dark characters that are smarter than stronger.

Ya, the concept of "sanity" would be a great element for an adventure game.
By the way, isn't it time to bring back classic adventure games?
Not trying to steer the conversation away, but, I definitevly think an adventure game about Call of Cathulhu would be awesome, specially if you implement most of it's concepts.

1) Yes.

2) Group. (Online Communities.)
(By "or by yourself" I'm taking your meaning to be: alone in a single player RPG like Final Fantasy, Fallout, etc?)

3) Varies.

4) Freeform.
(Chat &/Or Forum.)

5) When time permits.
(Haven't had a chance lately... )

I don't use dice rolls, stats or cards to determine the course of the RP 'flow' so this is probably not the type of information that your looking for.

I'm curious to see what your mysterious project is.

Theres a Cthulu game on the XBox, quite a creepy game but with some really great puzzles.

Got way too hard for me about halfway through, and haven't touched it since - I imagine someone who knows what the heck is going on would enjoy it, a kinda FPS adventure game.

2) With a friend.
3) I mostly play a warrior type.
4) I use computers and computers only to role play.
5) I am playing Runescape but I used to play Guild Wars.

i think because of Final Fantasy, the term 'RPG' has been mis-defined, lol. RPG doesn't stand for: "Stats, leveling up, pre-defined story" It stands for: "Role Playing Game", you take on the role of a character, and play out his life in one part in time, or many. The term RPG has nothing to do with stats or levels, or magic, or huge arse monsters. Final Fantasy should be called an Adventure game rather then a RPG. Yes you take on the role of a great warrior, but, you can't choose his actions, can't change the story, everything's pre-defined, and you must play it out according to the game's design, and when your done, you can't go back for more adventure.

Also, RPG, doesn't mean dice rolling either. I use to play a RPG with me and a couple of friends during lunch hour at school, and we had a GM who set the mood, then we just went along. We even had a jock play with us, LOL!

Anyway, I'm not looking for actual 'pre-defined' adventure games you play, like Guild Wars / Runescape / WOW...i'm looking for actual RP games, weither they use dice or not, character sheets or not, thats not the point. The point is you are a character in this world, and you can do anything you want.

Hope that clears this up some more. I'm almost done with my little system...this project I hope will be fun I don't want to give out details now...all i can say is, it has something to do with role playing...lol

1) Do you RP?

Yes

2)With a group of people, or by yourself?

With one other person, but I'd like to add a few more if possible.

3)What type of character do you like to portray?

Myself, normally someone in uniform, often a prison guard, or policeman, fireman, or perhaps a doctor.

4)What system do you use if any?

We wing it, but we always have a code word like "Banana" to stop the roleplay at any time if it goes too far.

5)Are you currently involved in any games right now?

I'm single, so no.

1. I used to a lot more than I currently do. Did a lot in Jr. High and again with a LARP (Live Action Role Playing) in college. Now, I don't know many people who would be interested, so I generally resort to computer games.

2. For Pen & Paper, I still like to create characters, and write campaigns. But most of that work, I have converted over to my D20 DBpro project that I constantly swear to finish. So for now, I'd have to answer by myself, ironically.

3. I generally play a character close to my own traits. I just find it easier to stay in character that way. I don't play a villain to well. And if I try, I generally mess up with my actions somewhere through the campaign. So I would say I play, a general good-doer, quirky, somewhat nerdy, overly-verbose, character. Be it a Paladin, Healer etc...

4. I know it is going to aggrivate some, but I have always stuck to the D-20 system. Whether it be AD&D or Modern. It just makes sense to me, and it converts nicely to computer game engines.

5. No not pen & paper games. I would like to though. We have a great store by me called "Monkey Head Games". Unfortunately, the people who meet up for Role Playing are usually very tight knit, and have been playing for a long time. Most people come in to play in card game tournaments, Computer MMORPG's, or Stratedy Board Games.

Hope this helps in your research. Great topic.

I role-play every day. Each morning I pretend I'm someone who wants to get up and work and overall was a good day and life doesn't suck. I'm sure we all play that game.

If you think of it like that, I role-play that my boss knows everything and he's better then me at everything we do, which is why he makes the bigger bucks...even though i got employee of the year and that bonus and was told by his boss that i could easily take his job if i wanted to but i replied that i don't want people to hate me and he would probably retaliate anyway by trying to shoot me one day so I'll just let it go and once my new portfolio is together and i land that new position at a more respectful company I'll rub it in his face as i pass him on the highway in my new '67 Shelby GT-500 with white-walls, chop-top, blown oven hood, black crystal paint job with white racing stripes, giving him the finger and saying you never could compete with me you stupid butt, and take off down the highway doing 120, then suddenly getting pulled over by a cop and having to explain myself for my sudden burst of speed only jabber about how I was trying to show up my old boss, only to get a lecture and a $500 fine, then trying to be smooth try to give the cop the $500 only to make him believe that I'm trying to buy my way out of a ticket and have him pull me out of my car arrest me and impound my car, I then get fired because I was on my way to my new job, and later that week my old boss's boss agrees to re-hire me and I get back to my old desk, sit down, and my old boss comes up behind me sips his coffee and says, Riigghhhtt, and walks away.

...moondog...sad
