I had an idea a while back to make a store level to go between existing levels where the player could buy, or trade, weapons and ammo for health. It could also be a first level to allow the player to select what weapons he will start the game with.

You will need to adjust health at the start and throughout the game if you decide to use something like this. Perhaps giving the player a health "bonus" upon completion of a level and before entering the store. Anyway....

This is crude and needs tweaking but you will get the idea. The important part is the scripts which make it work and they are in the scriptbank\user\store folder once you unzip the archive.

Attached is the required screen shot.

And here is the demo level....

http://download.fpsfree.com/m27t4rl16x/demos/store.zip

The way it's setup is you start with 100 health, you can purchase guns or ammo until your health reaches 10. Then you will be cut off. All the guns and ammo have prices (health costs) which are adjustable by using the proper script. (storeVal10.fpi, storeVal20.fpi, etc)

You may want to make signs for each item displaying the price the buyer will pay. Remember what Toni the trader say's, "Don't trade your life away!"

Best.

But wait....... how do you know what weapons to give them in the following level.

Example: They buy the axe.

How are you suppost to know or the engine suppost to know what weapons they bought in the next level?

If you could point somehting out, I'd be thankful.

Stupid is not a sickness but you make it look like one.

Cool...nice work.I know some people have been wanting a store script for a while.I think since players can drop items (but,unfortunately,not weapons/ammo) that it might be possible to have a player trade an item (for example,a briefcase of cash or somebody's head,if you wish) for a weapon as well.

@darmic, absolutely.

@all, thanks for the comments.

If TGC would give us one (or more) variables to use, we could do a better job and open up many more possibilities.

Wishful thinking.

Looking nice, but i'll have to ask, what's included in the .zip file in the first post? Is it an .EXE game showcasing the features of the store, or the scripts to make it work, or what? Normally, I wouldn't hesitate to download, but 30MB is a 3 hour download on my dial-up, and with me being back at school, I can't do large downloads.

Thanks!

Veron,

It is a small demo level. If you want just the scripts, you can find them on fpsfree.com in the scripts section.

Best.

Really good idea. You could also change the level to suit the style of your game, like make a sci-fi store or whatever.

Your signature has been deleted due to the fact that it was far too humourous to possibly show.
