I want to split my existing partition into two of them, and I cant figure it out, does anyone know of any free and good software for doing this? Id really like to not lose any data already in the existing partition.

Not losing data depends on how much of the current partition is being used. Partion magic should be able to split it without erasing anything, but no gaurantee.

Ranish Partition Manager can do it and it's free.

Ranish Partition Manager is a powerful hard disk partitioning tool.
It gives users high level of control for running multiple operating systems,
such as Linux, Windows 98/XP, FreeDOS, and FreeBSD on a single disk.

Partition Manager can create, copy, and resize primary and extended partitions.

Here's the Best Part
It includes command line interface and simulation mode that works with large files
so you can safely experiment before working on the real hard drive partition tables.

The one that Zenassem is probably the only decent one for free. Besides that you are better off getting Partition Magic but that you have to pay for.

For starters, in Ubuntu you can just edit the partitions using its installer or Gpartion or something like that. The file system has to be ext3 not NTFS. NTFS is for a msdos based OS. You also need a swap partition. Make that one like 1GB.

Well, it kept saying it when I had it on ext3, but ill give it another try, and the partition editor wasn't working in Ubuntu, well making a new one that is. So I should make another partition for swap to then?

Sorry for the double post, but does anyone know how to install something in Ubuntu? Ive got ndiswrapper-1.42 and I don't know how to install it, ive tried "apt-get install ndiswrapper", but it does not work, it says its an executable in the folder but when I try to open it nothing happens. Now its not a package, its just an archived TAR file.
