Hello!

I'm looking for a decent, fairly cheap web host, any suggestions? Who are you guys (n gals) with?

It's quite important that its cheap though as the only profit I'm planning to make will be from Google Ads etc.

Thank Yu!

I'd have to say GeeHost. http://geehost.com/shared.php Take a peak at their features; they're crammed with awesomeness.

A few of the links are dead though as they're changing their name but the deals are still the same. I think you can contact Eoin, the guy who will set it all up through gmail while they're changing stuff.
geehost@gmail.com

I've been using them for a few months and they're great. Super helpful too.

servage.net - rediculously large storage space and bandwidth limits - £4.50/month!

If you sign up you can use coupon code 'CUST19643' to get an extra 25GB of storage (And I'll get 25GB too + 2 months free hosting )

I have been using 1and1.com for about three years and they are the best. for just $4.99 a month you can get 2 domains 120GB web space and 1200 GB and bandwidth and lodes of other stuff. There is also a $3.00 one that is very good as well. check it out.

2TB of bandwidth a month, i'm not sure of the storage space, but it has support for PHP, and gives you phpMyAdmin and a MYSQL Database! The way to go for sure! And yes, it's free!

I've been hosted on there for awhile, but I've seen better deals posted here. Just another one to look at though.

This has been asked at least 2 or 3 times a month. A simple search would have brought up dozens of these threads.

I used a2b2.com (but they have a new sister site, cheapvps.co.uk) but it kind of requires a little Linux knowledge.

I personally use A-Plus. It's cheap, and they have some of the most amazing customer support reps in the universe (24/7 tech and sales support via phone and online chat). The service has an ungodly list of features to utilize and they're definitely worth taking a look at. And they're cheaper than much of the competition, with the option to pay monthly or yearly (a lot of web hosts don't allow you to pay monthly), so if you decide that you aren't happy with your service, you can simply drop them down the road. Oh, and you get two free domains with Aplus as well... not many competitors go that extra step If you use them, please tell them I sent you so I can get a free month, lol. The only downside is that their forum sucks (they use PHPBB), but you can switch to SMF (far superior) and it's remarkably easy to install with aplus' file management system.

Spidahost is also great, it's run by a community member by the name of Josh. You should definitely check out their service, it's cheap in cost and an all-around great service.

And when you have your website up and running, don't forget to register for free with the TGC Webring! You can read more about our community website ring here

I'd rather not buy hosting from a spammer.

By way of demonstration, he emitted a batlike squeak that was indeed bothersome.

The best host ever made...
I'm lucky because I got it when he was giving a lot to free users because he was just starting out, but his free account now is still good for most uses...dunno how anyone uses 100mb of space without cluttering things up...

hmmm...appearntly he took that down..dunno if he even does hosting anymore, much less free... no idea..

Then you failed to understand what he did. He spoofed the website into thinking it was a google visit. So you can see when google visits its reading spammy stuff assumedly for keywords. But when a visit occurs you see their hosting page...

What I fail to understand is how geehost would think that'd be helpful in any way.. I suspect it's some kind of attack possibly to get geehost banned from google results? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense either

What ever you do, steer clear of FastHosts or UKREG (their domain registration company). Their customer service is terrible. Its like they have a bucket of standard email replies and when you contact them with a problem, they pick one at random and send it to you! Completely irrelevant replies.
Everything is a cost option too - the cheapest products really are the bare minimum services.
They have a habit of taking money from peoples credit cards without authorisation as well. When you inform them of this they refuse a refund. When you threaten to contact your credit card company and inform them they threaten you with a punitive damages fee of an extra £50! Abismal company. Google them for some more horror stories but beware they have employees write bogus reviews which are nothing more than sales pitches. I apologise if this sounds harsh but their 'business practices' have really bugged me recently and if I can save some people the stress, hassle and expense of hosting with them my time has been well spent.

Hey Ollie,

Yeah I know I'm a bit late to this thread. =P

If you're still looking for web hosting, I can setup a custom account for you, get a website designed & built, register domains and pretty much anything else you can think of. My customers are also allowed to pay monthly on request. =)

chances are if you see a major web host advertise on pc magazines, dont use them

always get recommendations from people on forums or friends in real life who have hosting accounts.

Actually the reason I started SpidaHost was because I tried about 5 different web hosts (including some run by people who used to/still visit the DB community), and every host was utter crap. I knew that things could be much better, and they have been ever since.

I've found that my most effective advertising tool has not been Google Adwords or my affiliate scheme, but rather it has simply been word of mouth. I am finding it incredulously important atm.

By working in a customer services department, I've learnt how customers like to be treated and I can apply that to my web hosting customers to great effect.

I'm also open to new ideas, if any websites catch my eye I'll host them for free and have an active hand in developing and supporting them.
