Hello everyone,
Currently i am working on the mechanics of an RPG.
like creating mass amounts of buildings/npc's and other entites within a world. Right now i have 414 lines that include:

1) Full collision support for any object
2) NPC creation and placement using types (woohoo) - this is a great accomplishment for me because iv never used types before
3) Terrain collison
4) Full movement
5) Working jumping
6) An awesome system for showing NPC name plates above them and have them fade in distance and always face camera. - This part is really awesome.

And more!

Here are a screenie:
(Right now there are only boxes, this will change in a LONG time. I feel that i should complete the engine and mechanics before working on graphics)

Well Inverted, I am glad to say you are off to a good start. It is nice to see someone who paces themselves as you do, acknowledging the amount of work and time it will take to take on something of this scale. Good work, lets see it grow

Okay here is a new screenie, GREAT PROGRESS! Woot.

Okay iv added:
- Selecing objects, click on a monster / npc / item and it will turn red (showing you selected it)
- Chatbox, yeah i added a sexy chat box
- Code cleanup, i clean up my code every weak, refining my code and changing stuff to make it faster and easier to work with <<- to all beginners, this is a great way to learn.

So here is the WIP screenshot:

thats how I developed DT mate, good work so far.
You should think about adding a limbed sphere to the top of complex models and for monsters as it will allow for a closer range of polygon amounts for testing.

Looks like a good start! How did you make the text fade as you go farther away? Is the text a sprite?

Wow thank you so much for the comments you guys.
Sixty Squares. to answer your questions:

1) It is a mix of using fog and transparency, pretty simple if you think about it

2) Basically when i setup the game i have a function that inputs text, creates an image and clears the screen. Then i have a function to place it over the specified entites head. It's fairly simple, thanks for being interested.

Thank you everyone,
-Tom

This is a very good tip. On my first game I never did this. After a few months I had to completly rewrite everything to increase fps and make the code workable again.

I'm going to assassinate that dwarf in my game I'm going to have Psionic's spider creature eat him.

This is looking good for this stage of development. It is definitely a good idea to start with a small functional game and expand it when your engine is done. Otherwise you'll get lost. Good luck with it.

You have NO idea how fricken awesome that idea is. I think I will do this, only it won't be a true 'FPS' game because he will be chucking his axe at zombies, in fact that is a new game Genre. I am coining the acronym FPAT as First Person Axe Thrower.

The story will go something along the lines of:

You wake up one morning to find your Dwarven-wife dead. She was murdered! Zombies did it!
