My chip came in the mail today so now I have a GB more of RAM.
Now I'm going to celebrate...until my wife-to-be finds out how much I spent...then I am going to celebrate with a black eye.

More ram may not always affect performance. If you have 2Gb of Ram and you updgrade to 4GB of Ram you will either see a small perfomance boost or a decrease in gaming performance depending on the CPU and Video Card YOu have. But if you have 256mb, 512mb, or 1GB of Ram you should really think about upgrading to 2GB as 2GB is the ideal amount for gaming, and everything else (Except for major scientifict compucting, here you need at least 32GB lol).

Hehe, well I should think about upgrading my RAM soon...Doom 3 has lag, COD 2 has lag... I can't even reach the high number of polygons in the demo of Zbrush...Then again 256 mb ram is so retro its cool.

So far my performance on my pc (especially with FPSC) has improved greatly.
I have to get a couple of more things to upgrade my pc to where I want it (provided it doesn't kick the bucket...I got it in February '05 and they don't make 'em like they used to).
I was actually surprised at how easy it was to install the chip.
I just hope it's that easy to install the video card when I get it...and that my motherboard doesn't explode.

Video chips are basically the same to install as RAM, depending on whether it's SLI or not. I've got 512MB of RAM now, and i'll probably get another GB soon.

becose windows sucks?

if its 32 bit 4gb ram is the maximum, so it should let you use 4gb of ram. you could try it with the ubuntu live cd and see if this complains about the ram

learn blender, you will never regret it.

Because if it's a vacuum cleaner you're comparing it to. Windows really doesn’t suck that much.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA that's so funny my ears hurt just thinking about it.

To be fair, it's narrow minded to say that about windows. I'm sure plenty of people use it without experiencing continuous crashes and can shut it down just fine. Me being one of those people. I also use OS X. I don't use linux though, that probably makes me very closed minded.

Yes it costs money, and I agree it can be a bit expensive. It doesn't continually crash unless you install dodgy software, or use it wrong. It can crash on occasion however, it's not perfect. As for it having a lot of viruses - why does that make it a bad OS? It just means that malware writers like to target the most popular OS.

I've tried Ubuntu, and I still say I prefer Windows. Partially because it can play PC games, but also because it has very good driver support. I compiled an example that uses a popular 3D engine, and under Ubuntu it runs at a fraction of the speed that it does on Windows, even when I have the latest drivers. Of course this might be NVIDIA's fault for making crappy Linux drivers.

No problems for me yet, either. This PC is about 2 and a half years old now, using Windows XP.

My other PC is about 7 and a half years old, using Windows 98 SE. I've reformatted it once, a few weeks ago.

Anyway, how much RAM do you have now?

Mine's crashed maybe once in the past year. And you can't really blame Windows for the amount of Virii. I think the performance of Windows is dependent on the intelligence of its user.

Who cares about how many viruses are out there. If you are simply careful and don't run suspicious software you're in good shape. I haven't had a virus on this computer yet from what I can remember (it'll be 2 years old this summer), and the most serious windows virus I ever had only made my icons run away from the mouse cursor, however that was about 6 or so years ago.

My Windows has always been stable, I never have any crashing or unexplained shutdowns caused from something in Windows.

What are your system specs, I'd guess it has more to do with lack of memory or CPU cycles than Windows.

I have no signature...

I had that one, too. At about the same time.
