Lately I've been addicted to various gaming podcasts around the net. There's the weekly IGN ones (1up yours, retrocast, etc.), Major Nelson's, Gamers With Jobs, etc. I don't *think* they're that difficult to create, technically, as long as you have some good content and some interesting people.

What would everyone here say if there was a TGC podcast? The beautiful thing about them is you don't have to be in the same room. You can Skype people up or whatever, and edit it in post-production (add music, ads, etc.) Maybe a weekly show where the host calls up Lee or Rick to get updates on their FPSC X10, DBP, etc.

And we don't have to just call the TGC gang. We could speak with the guys over at Underware (PlayBasic), or even schedule interviews and chats with each other. Does anyone else think this would be cool?

It would be simple to set it up with an RSS feed so people can subscribe, and we could even setup a question/answer session from emails or from the forum and what-not.

Anyways, just a pipe dream. I hardly think I have a good radio voice, but all just the same it would be great.

Yeh I've thought this for a while. Back when Rich posted about iLife 06 for the Mac (garageband had some funky new additions for podcasting) I suggested it in the hope that someone would catch on. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

It would be a great addition to the community and I'd bet my left nipple it would be massively popular once it got going. There's definitely the ability within the community to get it set up (and to a decent standard at that) just need someone to take the first step.

Who will it be....................................?

It would be pretty cool, if I had a microphone and something to make podcasts with I'd totally give a hand, then you can all laugh at me speaking...heck grammar me on my correct I like to write, perhaps I could write stuff for one of our gorgeous speakers on here to read (It would be another thing to chuck onto future personal statements)

Why not go full hog with video podcasts? No need to see any mugs, but after that YouTube thread it would be cool to see videos of peoples games in the background.

Cheers

How were you expecting to speak? Using Microsoft Sam? Oh sure that's a good idea.

I think this would be pretty cool. I'd tune in. It would be neat if you could let people "call in" to talk on the show, I don't know how that'd all work, but it could certainly be interesting.

5th person to IM Lee gets a free copy of darkbasic or a plugin of their choice after the next game preview is over.

Thats actually not a bad idea. Maybe it could be some sort of plain TGC background when there is no video to be had, but when needed it could show video games or someone who is brave enough to show themselves .

Either way, summer is a few days away for me, So Ill have plenty of time to help out getting this started. Its seems though that to get this past the "that will be cool" stage we'll need to have someone be the "project supervisor" or what not. I say we have a Mod, or at least a forum veteran do it. Jeku would be my first choice, seeing as he's both and he suggested this.

To be honest, it would be cheaper if I bought the microphone and software Mr Makealotofsmoke rather than catching a taxi, then a plane and another taxi to your home and then same back for every pod cast

Look basically all is you need is auduacity and a PC MIKe. I make Podcasts all the time for my uncles record company. And my cousin plays guitar and drums, etc and did a song for us. I'm sure if we break out an alesis 8HD keyboard and a pc mike we can hit something off. It would be great.

Indeed, anyone with a microphone, heck even a web cam with a built in one, could contribute. As for the content, I say we lay out a guideline to follow. Something like this:

1. Welcome / Tech News / Content Briefing
2. Stuff Around The Forums
3. User Submitted Tutorial
4. Interview
5. Game Review (Made with TGC product)
6. TGC Product News
7. Closing

It may need to be tweaked, but you get the idea.

Well, seeing as we don't work for TGC, it would be hard to get a lot of that information. And I don't know about you, but a tutorial would be hard to pull off with a podcast.

It wouldn't have to be 100%-based on TGC stuff. Maybe chatting about what games we're currently playing (any game from any system), and for TGC there could be interviews with forum members who are working on cool things.

And I would prefer audio-only, but hey, anyone can run with this if they want

Good point, I was thinking a tutorial would work well with video, but then this might just be an audio podcast, so I suppose not. Also, I agree that It would be better if it wasn't all TGC stuff. Don't get me wrong, I think theres enough to talk about, but for it to be interesting, we'll have to branch out into the wider world of games and tech related stuff.

Other then that, I'm going to take the initiative to try and get this going. If your interested in helping getting this started, email me at jrcdrummer -at- gmail.com. Ill gather up a list of contributers and we'll go from there.

well I would make them all the time. but the slot were mike goes has been pulled out wrong so many times it broke. What keeps mine interesting is making them funny. Even stupid funny works. and when you make a mistake you can just edit it out. Plus you can downlaod 90 FREE plugins off the auduacity website.

That's a great idea, but you guys would never be able to pass "Game Scoop!" (IGN).

A good idea would be to cover the hottest projects on the site from other people, as well as your own.

sp3ng, I use a cheap 15 dollar mike and it works fine it sounds real, just have to make so the mike records as little sound as possible. So you don't get any "noise", then just amplify it. There are like 50 dollar pc mikes...like i'd buy that lol. Don't got the cash.Making sound effects is easy too.

I could definately chime in occasionally on a podcast, I think it would be great. Discussing games, TGC products, hot topics on the forums (without all the gossip and flaming) and other tech matters. I think this would be a very valuable asset to the TGC community.
