I live on Long Island in NY, and both 3D GameMaker and DBC were sold boxed in stores at COMPUSA at one time. I actually purchase DBC from them. Then I came home logged on to the site and saw that what I really wanted was DBpro. So I purchase that the boxed product via online that day.
Then to add to my misfortune, I decided to buy promotion, cartographyShop, and 3dcanvas pro two weeks later (and I was also interested in Darkmatter, texture maker, and a few other tools). Since I already had DBpro, alot of the cool saving bundles didn't apply, so I lost out again. I contacted sales but was told that since I bought DBpro seperately there was nothing they could do, except offer the other less inclusive bundles. So I bought Promotion seperately, and Cshop and 3DcanvasPro bundle.
Next I had issues locating my original DBpro CD, and this was before the site started to keep easy recording of all TGC key codes. I forget the exact situation but I wound paying for DBpro a second time getting the DBpro Online E-distribution package.
The unfortunate thing about buying through the store, is that the order is not in my online history, and you pretty much are hosed when it comes to support for re-downloads and other incentives. For instance my DBC cd is currently MIA, and I only have the manual and no box. So I don't think I qualify for the recent update (even if I find my CD).
So I've really have gotten it up the tail-pipe with my TGC software. It's all good now, but I wish TGC could have done more to accomodate a new customer to their products.
For the above reason I will never buy a TGC product via a store, unless TGC decides to integrate those purchases with the web software support, and purchase history, entitlements.
