I just got done watching this...and...was anyone else like "WHAT THE F#$%!" through the entire movie?

Me and my wife was watching, and the scene where they catch the farmers, and the captain does the thing with the bottle, my wife screamed, and couldn't watch anymore. I was like

Though, I thought it was a pretty good movie.

anyone else see this? not your average fairy tale i must admit

I saw it in theaters and thought it was pretty darn good. It had its fantasy aspects without making you feel you're watching a cheezy kids movie.

Quote: "and the captain does the thing with the bottle?"

yea that was pretty f***d up right there.

It just came out yesterday right? I plan on buying it. After seeing it in theaters, I downloaded it online but it had spanish subtitles. Which makes no sense since the movie is in spanish. (and before anyone says anything, I've bought every movie I ever downloaded once they were released)

I was actually surprised to know the director was the same who did Blade 2 and Hellboy. (but i can sorta see the relation with hellboy)

It's been out a while over here, might be different over there.

I got it about a month since. Very good film, at first I was like "hmmm, do I really want to watch a film about fairies" but it's much better than I expected.

In the DVD extras there's an interview with the director. I can't quote exactly but he says something along the lines of

"People have become desensitised to Hollywood violence. Blood running down Bruce Willis' face just dosen't have the same impact it used to. Seeing someone have the side of their mouth or the gaps between their fingers sliced open has much more impact on the audience" and it's true.

One of the most powerful parts, in my opinion, is... (spoiler-ish alert)

Guillermo del Toro also spent years scribbling and sketching all his ideas for the film in notebooks. He really put in some effort and it shows.

You've reminded of another eerie part. When the general or whoever gets their mouth sliced open. That wasn't so bad to see, but when he tried to drink alcohol and it squeezed out of the wound you could almost feel the burn yourself.

Yep. It's violence in a whole new way. You really do 'feel' the pain, in a weird kinda way.

Really good film. I think I'm the only person who didn't like the ending though. One of the few movies you don't remember had subtitles because it was captivating enough to make you forget you were reading the dialogue.

it was a very well made movie, and the visuals were top-notch. Some of the best I've seen. The violence made you cringe and actually feel it. It wasn't the fact of it being so detailed, but that it was actually believable. It didn't look fake.

One of my favorite scenes is when the girl tells the fairy tale to her brother, and the screen pans from the brother, to the fairy tale scene then back to the room there in. The camera work was pleasing, nothing too much for you to see at once.

I'm going to watch the special features tonight. The movie just came out yesterday in the States, and this was the first time I've ever seen this movie, since I never go to the theaters anymore.

As for the ending, if they didn't show the girl in her kingdom, then it would make me think, 'was what she did real? or was it all in her imagination?' it's hard to say if it really was real or not too. Good story telling

I loved this movie, it was really good. The bottle part was really messed up, I didn't even know that was possible.
