RULES! Has anyone else played it? I personally love the bubble shield! Also, if anyone gets a chance, take a portable gravity life and throw it in front of a vehicle coming towards you and laugh at that person driving, because he just got owned.

I downloaded it pretty fast today--- only took about 20 minutes. But as soon as I started playing I kept getting killed immediately before getting used to the weapons, etc. I probably won't play it again and just wait for the game, to play through campaign and get comfortable first.

Yeh but i thought that Beta is when the graphics engine is pretty much secured, but Alpha is when the graphics engine is in its early stages.

Well, if you think about it, the graphics are great, but are very rigid. Once there is anti-aliasing, it should look amazing

Hopefully they do something cool like that for Halo 3, a map editor would be tight, like port to 360 or even on the 360 itself, they would make people happy.

A map editor is an excuse to be creative, and shoot people in the face or be a "BoneCracker".

Ahh, am I the only one who was left kinda cold by it.

The graphics look so cool in the new screenshots, but when playing the beta I struggle to see where the 360 improvements come in, it's basically Halo2 IMO, which is not a major problem except that Bungee have done nothing but hype themselves into a corner with another game that won't quite meet our expectations.

I can't walk into the open without getting sniped, so there's little chance of me playing online, and I think the solo game will suffer because of this online gaming requirement. Personally I'd rather play Battlefield2 on live than Halo.

The ability to design levels in Halo2 on PC actually interests me more, I love making levels in FarCry on the XBox, it's incredibly relaxing when the editor is so easy to use.

Is the "editor" still a convertor for 3DS Max and an object placer, like it was on Halo CE? I won't bother if it is. GTK Radiant and Uberradiant for Quake engines; they are editors. Not that Sapien rubbish. It was overcomplicated.

How so, PC's are not made to play games, X-boxes are...

Also Jeku,
Bloom effects are not enabled yet as well as other graphical aspects.

i'm still completely unimpressed by it, i breifly took a look at it when my mate was playing it, it just reminded me of halo 2, looks to me like it plays more or less like the previous with a few new weapons, vehicles and items. Lets hope they can blow me away with a decent campaign now because multiplayer hasn't seemed to have changed much and i got bored of that a long time ago...

EDIT: i love making levels in Cryengine on the pc, its a little difficult to use at first but it gets quite in depth, the one for XBox was extremely fun because it was simple, easy to use and i could be flying over hills in my jeep in no time

I've never understood all the craze about any of the Halos. They are decent games, but I don't understand why everyone thinks they are any better than many other FPS's like CoD2, BF2, etc.

Watching people play is not a good way to judge a game you actually have to give it a chance and with all these new gametypes its pretty fun.

not sure if anyone has noticed but the screenshots are different to the actual beta.

reason is that they're testing out the new network code, not showing off the graphics capability. So you have the basic engine right now, the closed beta has everything enabled and is updated on a regular basis.

Wish I could've done the closed beta, but oh well.
Although this is a "beta" Bungie have a habit of completely recoding graphics for their games usually within crunch-time. Simply because one aspect doesn't work like they wish it would.

Halo 2 graphically was far superior to Halo 1, it's not even funny how much difference better normal mapping and lighting did to the game. With Halo 3 they're pushing that futher, but the biggest difference which won't be noticeable even remotely yet is the sheer scale of the game. Unfortunately too many games for the 360 are focusing on scale rather than graphical excellence, with most titles you can forgive this but hopefully they'll wise up at Bungie and realise a flagship title should be putting Gears of War to shame.

Bungie has said that the beta the public is playing is -2 versions behind with their graphics engine. I can only assume better textures and anti-aliasing would be in there, and I can't wait to see how that looks.

I forgot my 360 HDD at my vacation house, so I'm most likely going to miss the rest of the beta. Ohh well...

Time is going too fast... Too many games that I want are being released soon! Although, its my birthday soon, so I'll acquire some money and get a bunch of games..

No, I don't think any of the games are ridiculous, just not all they're made out to be. There are much better FPSs out there, yet everyone seems to think Halo is the best .

It's not *really* a beta, guys, calm down. It's a marketing tool used to sell copies of Crackdown. Crackdown is an *awesome* game on its own, but the only thing they're testing with this open "beta" is the server load.

If it was a real beta, we'd have access to all the weapons, all the multiplayer maps, etc. I will bet anyone here that the REAL Bungie QA testers have more to see than we do.

So this isn't about graphics or anything with me, though i did think that halo 2 looked better than version 1.

The thing with me was in two parts. 1.The story. 2.The music, I loved that music. It set with the combat and dialouge very well.

Of course its a beta they are collecting data you see it uploading to their servers all the time. Of course they wont give us access to every weapon otherwise there would be no point in buying the final game. Halo is good because of the story and universe that its made up of.

It's not a real beta, and there's no use arguing. It even says "Love, Bungie" when you start it up. It's a marketing tool used to sell copies of Crackdown. A stress test, as well, but NOT a beta.

Stress tests are forms of beta, and often usually the only kind available publically. This said most people I know have taken it as an oppertunity to checkout what is comming, given rather than giving access to everything you only have access to mostly new content that Halo 2 didn't have.

Still I don't see that damn flamethrower that the art team have been petitioning for since Halo 1.

Just because you say its not a real beta doesnt mean it is ok. Crackdown was a perfectly good game and i bet it would have sold just as many copies without the beta.

Hahaha you're dreaming. Crackdown was a great game, you're right, but it has sold more in the last month than ever, obviously due to the so-called "beta".

I think there are better first person shooters with a solo campaign but Halo 2 multiplayer on XBox Live rules...unless everybody quit to play the Halo 3 beta.I haven't been on Live for a while.

I just got Halo 2 for Vista today, best multiplayer I've ever played! Just the controls are a bit sketchy and sometimes when your near a grenade or exploding rocked, your body will go between the stiff-death body and the ragdoll-body. Looks very odd at times seeing a body jerking back and forth in mid air. The 2 new maps are quite nice too.

Umm...okay.....I built my PC to do one thing play games...I play for money too. So yeah.....PC's are just a multi-use instriment. Both for work and play.

But in 5 years "Xboxes" "PS3s" etc. will just be dedicated game playing machines where you can play WoW on it etc. With a keyboard and mouse...already got keyboards for Xbox and PS2 i believe.
