I just found this tutorial, finished reading it over, and its really, really well done. It covers visual basic amazingly in-depth, going from basic programming theory (functions, variables, all that jazz) to getting a 2D game working, to understanding and implementing Direct X, to making a 3D engine. Example programs are provided, and it's really well written, not hard to understand at all for the moderate programmer.

Linkage Here

Really I see no reason why someone with basic programming knowledge wouldn't be able to nearly master visual basic over a few days of reading and implementing the examples from this tutorial.

Awesome thanks.

i have been doing vb in school this year.

But me along with other sophomores, had to repeat a few chapters because our teacher didn't think we mastered it. we fell so behind, that we will have to finish vb next year before starting java. Because of this, we don't have time to do a final project this year. I wanted to make a game.

dont hate people who rip you off, cheat and get away with it, learn from them

Good info ruccus, very well explained. Might consider doing vb as a second language over c++.

I don't think I should be saying this here, but I think even though DB and VB are both basic languages, as far as program structure and flexibility, I prefer VB, alot more heh. But, I think it can be kind of pointless unless you properly know how to use it lol.

Run away while you still can!!

Seriously, though. I have used VB6 daily for the last 6 years, and it is incredibly fast to get things up and running with it. Although the IDE is pretty crappy, debugging it is pretty good too. And, goes without saying, as a language it's much better than DBPro.

The problem is that its class system is to all intents and purposes inexistant so if you're into OOP, avoid like the plague. Also, do not, under any circumstance use the DHTML control for web page editing. You are in for a world of pain. My company's product depends heavily in this piece of crap and it has been the biggest drain on development time and developer happiness I have _ever_ seen.

I have vague plans for World Domination

Use C#, I learned it and it is well worth it. Quick to pick up thanks to my C knowledge, and its syntax is suprisingly simple.
