Not just me then, I thought I was the only one, I think its something someone's done but the checkers have not spotted it yet, and a rebuild does not make it go way either, Dam annyoining hope someone finds a fix for it soon.

Double-click: Open a folder, select Tools->Folder Options, check the 'Double-click to open an item' and click OK.

Sticky keys: Open the 'accessibility options' in control panel, go the the Keyboard tab, then make sure the 'sticky keys' box is not ticked. Then click the sticky keys settings button, and make sure that the 'use shortcut' tickbox is not set.

@HowDo,
I know what Roxas is talking about (or think I do), but what are you talking about?

I am on about that I have the problem of the mouse button not doing a one button click , need to do it twice when it used to be once, will check the above and see if anything been changed but seeing I did not know that you could change it, something must have done it for me.

just checked not been changed, its how it should be.

But sometime I have to click an icon that on the quick start bar twice.

I had the same problem. I think i just increased the double clicking speed in the mouse manager, or decrease it... i dunno.

Do you mean 'Windows' or Windows Explorer?

If you mean in Explorer, go to Tools..Folder Options and check which radio button is selected in the bottom section. It sounds like you have Single-click to open selected.

If not, then you might have an iffy mouse button. If you don't have a spare to test it with, go to Control Panel...Mouse and temporarily switch the left and right buttons.

The left button is used a lot more than the right and wears out quicker. Doing this makes the right button the primary button and if the problem disappears, you need a new mouse.

Don't forget to change the button settings back afterwards.

This has happened to me from adware spyware websites. Even after cleaning my computer the problem remains.

The only solution I have found to work is. Remove your mouse directly from Device Manager. Restart the computer and let Windows detect and reinstall the mouse.

Go to your mouse's options. Usually you can adjust what each button does. Sometimes you have the ability to make a mouse button set to double click. It may have been changed once by accident, or by some malicious software or something.

I have no signature...

@Agent Dink,
Your suggestion is logical, and should be tried (as you are correct about the settings), but I have found that usually when this happens if not done manually (either intentionally or unintentionally through the mouse options) the settings will all appear normal. I've even gone through the entire registry looking for anything and using .reg fixes to return the mouse to normal without success.

I have observed the mouse:
- double-clicking instead of single.
- right-clicking when left click is pressed. and right-click operates as usual. This is most common when trying to launch desktop shortcuts.
- The mouse options will all appear normal, and the device manager reports no problem with the device.

I'm not sure how/why, although I know it's web-browsing related, but it seems as though the device driver gets messed up somewhere else. Since removing the mouse and letting windows Auto-detect it solves the problem so quickly, I gave up on my attempts to delve into the problem further. I'm still baffled about where the problem lies, and all of my inquiries get the response to reinstall.

Perhaps one day I'll actually find the root of the problem.

Post back and let me know. From Experienc this has worke 98% of the time.

the remaining 2% you ask....

1% I need to fully remove my old driver from Windows, and be ready with a new driver. This seems to be the case if the actual driver and asscoiated files have been corrupted.

1% I kick the computer, and sadly, it's time to either re-image, or in the darkest of times... GulP!!!! Reinstall from scratch!!!

Your welcome!

I am the type that likes to get down to the lowest level to understand the cause. This problem is a thorn in my side, as I have spent hours, trying to find the root issue and.

I guess the fix makes up some of the frustration, but I have lost sleep over this mouse trouble more than a few nights!

Glad your back in business! That's the most important thing!
