I wanted to model an AK-47 and a Beretta for a game, but am not sure about the legal systems on guns.

Do I have to get permission from the distributor of a gun to use that gun inside a commercial game or program?

For example:
Lets say I modeled a Beretta 92-model, and wanted to publish it into a game. Would I have to contact Beretta USA first, or could I just use it in the game anyway?



I am not sure where to post this, but it wouldn't go in FPSC, since the game I had in mind is a third person shooter.

If I got the wrong forum, could a mod please move this?

I'd assume there is no issue with AK-47 because it's an abbreviation, but using company names like Beretta probably wouldn't be allowed.

So the best idea is to make a few changes, customize it a bit, make it not look like a beretta, and call it something different?

the only thing ive come across like this is in SWAT 4, and it has to do with colt and all its products, but apart from that u should be fine.
