Just noticed this on the FPSC boards, thought I'd share =D We all know there are some bad people on the web, but the advertisements TGC places on the forum through google are getting pretty clever...

You do realize the ads are targeted based on the topic content, so stop making topics about sex offending .

Good point I didn't actually think about the name of the member! Strange how google associates things...couldn't offer children's toys or anything, had to jump straight to that conclusion...

You think that's weird, at least there is some correlation with the words on the page.

I have a theory; Google Ads have the abillity to accidentally read their own ads and it ends up like Chinese Whispers, only with Google Ads in place of people.

Its also quite a lot to do with keyword bidding I think too...

For example, I wrote a blog post about Drupal on my website. I then looked at the adsense and there were ads for Joomla/Mambo (Drupal's closest open source competitor).

Lol. I guess it's just a wierd advertisement glitch. My cousin used to have a discussion forum for teens, used adsense, and ended up with ads for gay marriage rings! More like adsnosense.

Although Children of Bodom is a band... The band is known for singing about murder, death, struggle, war, and most famously the Lake Bodom Murders:

The Lake Bodom murders were an infamous multiple homicide that took place in Finland in 1960. Lake Bodom is a small lake in Espoo, about 22 kilometres west of the country's capital, Helsinki. On the night of June 4, 1960, four teenagers were camping on the shores of Lake Bodom when an unknown person murdered three of them with a knife and wounded the fourth. The sole survivor, Nils Wilhelm Gustafsson, has lead a normal life until 2004 when he became a suspect. In October 2005, a district court found Gustafsson not guilty.

The murders have proven to be a popular subject in the Finnish media and commonly have made it back to the headlines whenever new information or theories have surfaced.


So put "Child" and "Bodom" together and it's quite easy to see why those ads appeared.
