I nabbed a copy of Devil May Cry 3 for the PC and my joypad is a bit funky with it (I'd use the keyboard, but it's a pain for that sort of game)

I would be able to solve this 'funkiness' if I could change the settings in Devil May Cry, so that the left analog stick moves the character, but I can't. The problem itself is (I have a joypad that looks exactly like the PS2 ones) DMC3 requires me to use the right analog stick, but for some reason axis are topsy turvy- so up = left, down = right, right = down, left = up, so it makes playing the game a pain, I opened up the driver tools and they are crap, to be honest, the calibration just sets the center of the analogs...

So I need a free tool that'll let me edit the joypad settings or something to solve this isolated problem.

Cheers.

I know you said the driver tools are a pain, but have you installed the software that comes with your joypad. Most software allows you to completely change any buttons or axis on your controller. Like, changing x axis to be y, etc

However, if the manufacturer doesn't have decent mapping software, im unaware of a third party alternative. (Not that I've really looked at all)

you won't find anything to alter the analog settings i'm afraid, usually there's a calibration thing "in-game"

i find it a pain games that don't support my 360 pad will ignore the back triggers or declare them as a single Z-axis (dbp does this hence why i coded a plugin for xinput).. and my gameware pad has it's XY normal, but X Rotational and Z Rotational are reversed to Gravis pads; which most games support. So often i get the problem you're talking about but with camera movement. Some games let you change it.

personally find it shocking how few PC games even support gamepads, those that are console converts (like Soul Reaver for example) either lack support, or support is very tempermental.

damn shame imo esp. given how many are on the market now. even with the 360 one being so common most developers are still ignoring it.

There is a program called Xpadder. It works pretty well. You do have to set up a bit but it Works perfect for anything you need. What it does is mapps the controls to a keyboard (or mouse). So you can even play games that don't have controller support.

There is a utility that will make windows mapp the Xbox 360 controller as a normal controller.

dabip, didn't see it supporting the xbox 360 controller; just the original (they don't have the same chip or output), also there's no Vista version.

No disk.

@Dabip, cheers, I'll try that app.
