Im not a fan of your colour harmony, sorry mate, the maroon and baby-poo yellow vibrate a little.

However, to make it better, Nicholas posted this site a while back, it will help you make a series of colours or a colourset that work together.

I tried to use blue for links, but on maroon, it might look cool, but it makes it next to unreadable..it doesn't matter what shade I use of blue, it just isn't easy to read..

wow...that tool is pretty cool..
I don't see how any of the colors generated for my color though is easy to read that's not the white or gray I use..

Think of your background, foreground and elements as a series of z dimensional objects.
naturally the background should not be lurid, followed by the layout elements that define your website areas, followed by the actual content data and elements that would be used by the website visitor. try to be minimal with a colour range and dont forget about tones, white, greys and black can be substitutes for elements.

In this small graphic we are using a neutral tone for the background, and have decided to stick with the warm colours of the spectrum, we use a dark red maroon colour for the areas that mask out the element boxes and two warm hues orange and yellow for the title text and body text.

This creates a harmony and makes the eye focus to the text while suggesting its all part of one big hue pattern. I have tried to make it as close to yours so it can be used if you want.

I use color chipsets, to create schemes. There are plenty online. There is actuallty a committee that votes for designer chipset colors for a given season each year as well. Ever wonder how it's possible to get a toaster, garbage can, and towel in the same color even though they are by different companies? It's not by accident.

I can send you some when I get home.

I have also made my own chipsets with the help of a C++ program (not written by me) and have used gimp to grab colors used in linux themes.

So if your not great at figuring out the schemes, don't be affraid to borrow from professional design.

Colours look better - although I'm not sure I'd personally CHOSE them for one of my sites, but its your site and if you like it then thats what matters to you.

Suggestion - put a little more padding on the inside of your main-grey area.

I'll send you those palette chipsets when I get back this afternoon. Does look better though.

Personally I am not a big fan of that white font, on black, at that level of whiteness. A cleaner thinner font for the main text might work better, like on blogging sites.

white on black can work but it needs to be done perfectly, or else it causes severe eye-strain. Especially for people like me. I'll provide an example of what works for my eyes, and my laptop if it helps.
